Maybe I Abu.

My birthday tomorrow. No biggie. Nothing planned, weekday in boring January, dh at work. ( he is taking me to see the Bodyguard tonight, very excited)

Anyway phoned dm this morning, who says I won't see you tomorrow, I'm going shopping Hmm She lives a five minute walk away.
I feel very hurt that she's not even making the effort to pop in for a cup of tea, or if she really can't be arsed, to ask me round.
I always make an effort for her birthday, ( pop in with cards, pressie, and flowers from the dgc). Then on Sunday do big roast lunch and homemade birthday cake.

Or do I need to grow up and stop being so stupid?

My mother has stroke induced dementia and hasn't remembered my birthday for years. This year she produced a card that she had made at the day care centre with my name scribbled in it and I cried - it's the first thing she's given me, without me knowing about it (I buy all her Christmas gifts on her behalf) and I was overcome. Dingit, I'm sorry your mum isn't what you want her to be, it's very hard and I understand the sadness, but try not to let it get you down. Happy Birthday for tomorrow.

I don't expect much for my birthday either (next week) and have only seen my Mum once on my actual birthday once in about twenty years. Don't let this get you down.

By all means send her a text/call and ask if she fancies having a cuppa with you on our birthday but from her previous behaviour don't get your hopes up. Enjoy your birthday night with DH (sounds fab).
