To get a TV for my DS in his room?

I can't make my mind up if I am or not. DS (4) has got this thing about wanting to play upstairs by himself, he doesn't like it because it's too quiet but he loves being up there playing. I put the ipod docker on in his room but it still bothers him. He'll only go up there is his 2 year old sister goes with him...bless him!

We play downstairs and the TV is on, I thought about getting him one for his room to see if that would help.

WIBU to get him one or is he too young?

DH and I nearly divorced 2 nights ago when he insisted on watching a film on ipad as I was trying to sleep, he argues I could sleep through it.

"Vroom vroom bang argh punch" yeah just like a fucking lullaby.

As a child the best thing my parents gave me was a tv in my room. I loved it.

There is a school of thought that says it is a good idea to try to place at least some limits on screen time.

If you think that has any merit, you may find it harder to enforce those limits if a TV is in the bedroom, especially as he gets older.

I would discourage anyone from having a TV in their bedroom. It is not conducive to good sleep.

I think it's far too young.

I think you'd be better off helping him get used to playing with no background television noise downstairs. Then he won't find it so lonely upstairs.

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2014 15:30

I don't think the sleep thing is relevant in the OP's case, it's for when he's in his room playing.

I still don't have a TV in my bedroom and never have. Its not good for sleeping and IMO its not good for people to have the TV on in the background all the time, it takes up the silence in the room which allows the brain to relax.

The DS needs to learn how to choose between being down where the action is or off on his own pottering quietly and coping with that.
