I got made redundant in December. 2 days before my redundancy (just before xmas) I was told I needed to complete a round of paperwork from them, my accountant, lawyer, etc., etc.

As a result here I am on 2nd Jan with bills to pay and they still have my 50k. Yes, you read that right.

I understand that it's just going to take a bit of time, but AIBU to just want my fucking money and AIBU to think they could've told me 2 months ago that I needed to do this paperwork?

YANBU. I hope it gets sorted soon

SolidGoldBrass · 02/01/2014 12:43

Do you think the company is going bust? Did they tell you when you could expect the payment? Also, (and admittedly its' not my area of knowledge) it sounds a bit weird that you need to complete so much paperwork when you are being made redundant.

YANBU, but I'd repost in "legal" to get advice as to where you stand.

I know it doesn't help you but I was made redundant in march last year. Never had to fill in any paperwork other than sign an acceptance letter to say I agreed with the package they were offering me (at the third attempt they offered what I wanted) And the money was in my bank the day I left.

OK, it wasn't £50k but was still quite a considerable sum.

And on a plus note I found another job within three days Grin

I would seriously consider why they are delaying payment. Maybe a search of your ex-employers' legal responsibilities would be in order

Is this your wages or your redundancy settlement?

MiniSoksMakeHardWork · 02/01/2014 13:22

Yanbu. I was medically dismissed in August and am still waiting for compensation payment and wages to be paid! (It's akin to a redundancy package but with a different name). This is all because they cannot sent me one piece of paper with the correct information on it. The twice they tried, it's been very, very wrong. And my payment is nowhere near as much as yours.

No, the company don't have any financial woes. You probably have at least one of their products in your house!

It's redundancy settlement going through a ltd company for a tax advantage hence the hoops.

Got the final document in the mail today, went to scan it and email it over and the scanning shop has closed down. Aaaaargh! Wink

OP, this sounds bent as buggery. Have you taken independent legal advice? If they are tax-dodging or up to something else unethical and it can be shown that you knew about it, you could end up in a lot of trouble.

WantToShop · 02/01/2014 22:31

It's fully-legal, I'm just getting paid the way the rich do.
