Yesterday my niece had an appointment at hospital about 19miles away. Dh toke her and dsis said she would give him a fiver petrol.

When he dropped her off she said she hadn't been bank and will pay him later.

He used a lot of petrol there and back due to road works.

She's now refusing to pay him because it's his pay day next week.

We're not in need of the money, but we're being strict with our money this year.

Aibu to think she's taking the piss

I didn't ask for money, she offered when asking dh to take her. We had plans that we canceled to take her.

Your own niece and you begrudge a fiver? Very poor.

Writerwannabe83 · 01/01/2014 22:42

Sorry to hear about your cancelled plans and the fact you are without a fiver. I can't believe your initial response was, "Don't be silly, of course we don't want your money..." Hmm

Your sister and niece sound like very lucky people to have such caring close relatives....

SoonToBeSix · 02/01/2014 02:11

Yabu you don't need the money and she was going to hospital. It's £5 seriously let it go and next time don't be so mean.

MrsCakesPremonition · 02/01/2014 02:18

She offered you the money.
And then went back on her word.

Unfortunately she would have been better off not offering as now she appears to be untrustworthy.

It's up to you whether you choose to make a big deal of it though.

SillyNickname · 02/01/2014 02:30

Oh cringe that you chased her up for a fiver. It would be unheard of for you to charge/accept payment in my family!

longingforsomesleep · 02/01/2014 02:38

YABU to ask for money and YABU to make a fuss over £5.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 02/01/2014 02:57

Regardless of whether you pursue the £5 or not, your relationship with your sister has definitely changed. It is upto you whether you think it is salvagable, the loss of £5 is the least of your worries. Life will throw more challenging situations at you & both of you may need each others' help to support each other in the future. It would be a shame to miss out on that support for the sake of a fiver.

ÝANBU
She is pissing about, saying she's pay it, then saying she didn't go to the bank; then saying that your DH was getting paid anyway.
It seems to me that the important question to ask is " Is she like this on other occasions?"

Has she pulled this stunt before?
