I completely agree! I love the supermarkets basics range! Tes cos razors are great and only 17p! And you can get a big box of washing powder in morisons for a few quid! Bargain!

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 31/12/2013 11:58

Never tried it. I get mine from Wilkos or pound shop anyway

SaucyJack · 31/12/2013 11:59

Ahem

MissRabbitsOtherJob · 31/12/2013 12:01

Did I miss the vote on the thread police?

CaffeinatedKitten · 31/12/2013 12:10

I use a sensitive patch up thingy. The 30p stuff cleans well enough but doesn't help with the pain. So I'm going to perch on my cosy fence and watch:)

Theas18 · 31/12/2013 12:12

Toothpaste and toothbrushes I do have to have branded- I'm a bargain tart for anything else pretty much!

Probably due to my sensitive /over brushed teeth though (due to dental phobia- now I'm looking at treatment because I've cleaned too well!! you can't win)

NewName123 · 31/12/2013 12:15

Saucy, I posted here as in AIBU to buy cheep products at the expense of my families dental health or is it ok?

OP posts:
notallthere · 31/12/2013 12:34

Possibly.

But seeing as I've got to my mid 20s using branded products and not a single filling, I'm not prepared to take the risk and switch now.

scousemouser · 31/12/2013 12:35

Only ones my DD2 can use as the cheap ones don't contain the allergens

overmydeadbody · 31/12/2013 12:36

I would never use any toothpaste other than sensodyne. I have tried a few others out of necessity when I have forgotten to take my own toothpaste to other places I am staying overnight, and regretted it.

Only sensodyne stops the pain.

scousemouser · 31/12/2013 12:37

And FWIW her dentist has seen a dramatic improvement since she found out her allergies earlier this year as she now cleans them properly whereas before most products gave her a burning sensation.

CerealMom · 31/12/2013 15:15

I look for bunny friendly - which tend not to be the mainstream/cheap ones.

LittleBabyPigsus · 01/01/2014 05:22

CerealMom Sainsburys Basics (and Sainsburys own brand generally) is bunny friendly.

hazchem · 01/01/2014 05:48

Love basic toothpaste and suffer from sensitivity. I clean with the basic then after all is done rub a little sensodyne on my teeth before bed. Means a tube lasts for ages !

MadIsTheNewNormal · 01/01/2014 06:17

No. I've tried using cheap toothpaste and it's rubbish. It is too thick and chalky and it clogs up the tube and dries out really quickly.

paxtecum · 01/01/2014 08:57

Sainsburys Essential Tea bags are brilliant.
27p for 80 tea bags and they are Fair trade.

Latara · 01/01/2014 10:17

Cheap toothpaste is fine for some people but I have extremely sensitive teeth; I've tried everything but the only toothpaste that works for me personally is Sensodyne Pronamel.

bebanjo · 01/01/2014 11:22

I asked my dentist this a year ago, she said it is the way you brush and how long for that make the difference. Different with the sensitivity thing.
My dad has never used any toothpaste and has no fillings, his 76.

TeacupDrama · 01/01/2014 11:32

I am a dentist and I am far more interested in people brushing properly for 2 minutes twice a day than which toothpaste they use, I am sure tesco basic fluoride toothpaste is fine never tried it, I am a bit more concerned re basic toothbrushes as they tend to be too hard and the head too long a small head is better

it is generally cheaper to buy oralB colgate brushes at the dentist rather than boots supermarket as often cheaper, we do not aim to make much profit on brushes and are generally 75p cheaper than boots

if you have sensitivity basics may not do the job, nobody should waste money on whitening toothpaste pearl drops or smokers toothpastes they are either too abrasive or do not work

Missred · 01/01/2014 11:33

Home bargains anyone? Colgate for sensitive teeth - more effective on me than sensodyne - is £1 for 50 ml tube. Love that shop......

glammanana · 01/01/2014 12:50

Don't they all have to go through the same tests first before being allowed on the market for sale,I've always found own brand toothpaste as good as if not better, and as stated it is the length of time you take brushing that makes the difference.

UsedToBeNDP · 01/01/2014 12:55

Oh, I love a firm toothbrush teacupdrama Blush. Those wishy washy floppy jobs just don't feel like they get my teeth clean.

That said, i moved to a sonicare about a yr ago and love it. Superb (as toothbrushes go).

KungFuBustle · 01/01/2014 13:27

I'll give that a g OP. We usually get branded from homebargains but that's even cheaper.

I love tesco value ,mushy peas. 14p a tin and delicious.

nkf · 01/01/2014 13:31

It's totally fine. I always buy it.
