It makes the film distinctive, no?

Also, are we the only family to refer to him as "Penis van Lesbian"?

Well I guess its a mockney accent . I would much rather hear dick van dyke mockney than that bloody danny dyer fuckwit.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 20:40

My brother told me today that apparently DVD was coached for his accent by an Irish guy who also couldn't do the accent!

I would love that to be true Grin

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 02/01/2014 20:42

He's not English???

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 20:44

He is American.

That's his real accent in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Unless he is English and he's been proper fooling us for decades!

iklboo · 02/01/2014 20:47

If they did a remake today they'd probably cast Jason Statham Grin

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 20:50

'Maaarreeee, you fackin' slaaaaag'.

It would be very different, wouldn't it?

But I would pay top dollar to see Statham dancing with those penguins Grin

There are Disney Rag Dolls!!!

looks round for child to buy them for

whereisthewitch · 02/01/2014 20:52

There's a bit when Mary is singing to the robin during " a spoonful of sugar" where you can see the glue on her wig... I know I'm sad to have noticed this.
I much prefer JA in the sound of music and DVD in chitty chitty but I do love Mary Poppins!
Would love a remake wonder who would play her??

BeaLola · 02/01/2014 20:53

I love Dick Van Dyke ...no idea why but I just do..... Tbh I do not like Chitty Chitty Bang bang that much but watched it yesterday with DH who loves it and DS for first time... As soon as DS who is. 6 saw DVD in Chitty he went Thats the man who was in Mary Poppins ! I was impressed that he made the connection as he saw MP ages ago.

DVD wasnt he in a show with Mary Tyler moore ? and Glynis Johns ...w ell she is very beautiful.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 20:54

Exit - yes, mostly the Princesses, but also Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland.

I say rag dolls, more like soft, cuddly toy dolls.

DD has been collecting them since she was 4 - she has about 7 now, I think.

You can even get some of the Princes - we were looking at the dolls from Frozen yesterday and they had Kristoff - and some of the horses (from Tangled and Brave) and the reindeer from Frozen.

They're lovely, really.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 20:55

He had his own show in America in the 60s - I think it was just called The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Comedy/sketch show type thing.

JaneEyresHeir · 02/01/2014 20:56

Aw - its's 'Feed the birds' now - always makes me cry!
Mary's accent is vair posh 'Tuppence a bayg....'

ExitPursuedByAChristmasGrinch · 02/01/2014 20:58

Oh I loved the horse in Tangled.

The best bit of having a dd was all the Disney movies she is 14 now and too cool. cries

mrsjay · 02/01/2014 21:00

whereisthewitch · 02/01/2014 21:00

mrsjay · 02/01/2014 21:01

I have heard that Dick has his own medical show called diagnosis murder i believe Blush

mrsjay · 02/01/2014 21:02

no not jason would be danny you slaaaaaaaag dyer penguin dancing

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 21:02

Exit - my DD is 12 now, but was still very excited to see Frozen a couple of days back. She's a geek though, loves David Bowie and Kate Bush, can't see her ever being too cool for Disney.

She also has the excuse of younger siblings and younger cousins so she can 'take' them.

Would you like a borrow? I've had her for 12 years, that's long enough.

mrsjay · 02/01/2014 21:02

my dd is nearly 21 and almost wet herself when i got her lion king tickets Grin

SconeRhymesWithGone · 02/01/2014 21:03

Yes, Mary Tyler Moore played his wife in The Dick Van Dyke Show. It remains one of my favorites.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 21:04

whereisthewitch - DD came downstairs with Belle yesterday and I commented that she looked like she'd been up the chimney with Bert, so this thread must have been in the back of my mind.

She also has Merida, which has really sticky-out ears, bizarrely, but her hair is all corkscrewy.

The Rapunzel one is my favourite.

JaneEyresHeir · 02/01/2014 21:09

DS is 21 as well, mrsjay, The Lion King was his favourite Disney film as a wee boy (along with Peter Pan, as he reminded me the other day!).
We saw The Lion King on a trip to a London over ten years ago - it was fabulous!

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 21:10

I really want to see The Lion King. And Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. And Mary Poppins. And Wicked.

mrsjay · 02/01/2014 21:11

we went in November to see it in Edinburgh dd was very excited it was fab. Never too old for disney IMO i love when a new one comes out My current fave is Brave me and dd2 (15) watch it at least once a month

ExitPursuedByAChristmasGrinch · 02/01/2014 21:11

Ach. She thinks she is too cool but we still enjoy a good sobfest! And 12 to 14 is a big step.
