energy policies. At the moment, they are happy for energy companies to build as many pylons as they wish; but with the number of lengthy power cuts increasing, due to violent weather, surely it would make more sense for cables to be out underground. Obviously, underground pylons are kinder on the eye, but energy companies argue that they cost too much - surely we are seeing that it is a cost worth paying.

You might be right, but then again the cost of maintaining them underground...like having to dig roads etc up to mend them might be prohibitive?

Also, I wonder if the underground cables would still suffer in flood hit areas?

I must admit Worra the thought of flooding DID cross my mind - visions of everyone being electrocuted! Grin As they DO sink cables in certain areas, I assume it must be safe - after all they lay them under rivers. I think they are put down in tunnels, accessible to workers, rather than digging them up every two minutes. We were told that the additional cost of putting cables underground in our area, rather than building new pylons, 4x the size of the original ones, would amount to .......£1 a year, per head!
