To be wary of going to MILs tomorrow

MIL was working Christmas Day so is having the family over tomorrow . Ds has been unwell with a cold since Christmas Eve but is getting better now . However my nephew woke up on Christmas morning to chicken pox . So DH absolutely does not want me to take him and to just get SIL to take DD down and I stay in with DS . Would he still be contagious at this time ? I really don't want to risk it because ds has been really unwell recently cutting a molar and it's really knocked the stuffing out of him taking colds mouth ulcers temperatures rashes he just seems to take really unwell when cutting teethSad
Oh and he's 13mo.

WWYD ? I don't really want to go but I think MIL will be quite miffed and think I'm being over cautious .

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that your DN isn't being kept at home. Some people are just so selfish, he'll probably be feeling quite poorly too.

But that said, of course you are right to keep yours at home.

Ok so just spoke to MIL I tell you it's a cracker !!

She has just told me her DPs DGD has it now too , and MILs DB has shingles ! Wtf was she not going to tell me this ??

She was also supposed to babysit the dcs on Tuesday night because dh and I are working , and was bring her DPs DGD because her parents are going out for NY, so now I don't have a babysitter for work on Tuesday . It's the first time I've asked her to mind them for ages as well Sad I was looking forward to them getting to spend some time with her , DS hardly knows her Sad

Bloody hell, it's pox central round hers!

But again, why aren't the DGD's parents staying home with their ill child on NYE? Sheesh...

Ok, well the shingles is unrelated as you can't catch that, you only get shingles if you've had chicken pox already. But you can catch chicken pox from it.

So basically, your DS has got about three people he can catch cp from. Just stay clear. If your mil still wants a family gathering then she's a bit on an idiot. It'll be a cp party instead.

It is bad that she didn't think to inform you she was bringing a child with chicken pox to your house when baby sitting. My only theory is that she is of the "sooner they get it the better" camp.
My in laws invited us round for dinner when DD was 2, neglecting to tell me both of their other DGC were there too, both with Chicken pox. They were all playing happily in the other room(all 3 children), I went in to check on them and then noticed DNiece was spotty, as was Dnephew. I soon realised they had done it as a pox party and not informed me!
I was livid, but PIL could not see the issue. (FWIW DD didn't catch it at that point, she caught it 3 years later from school).
Maybe your PIL are much like mine?
