To think a Kindle would cost less than £69 in a sale?

Hi. (slight stretch of AIBU here) Smile

It is DS's birthday very soon and he would love a kindle. Just the very basic one.

I thought I would be able to get a bargain what with the January sales and all that.

Cheapest one I've seen so far, (from my sofa on the internet) is £69 from Tesco.

Perhaps I was being a little naive but anyone know of anywhere cheaper? Very many TIA.

DD has a Kobo, I have a nook and my brother has a Kindle. There really isn't enough difference between them to knock out on or the other tbh.

For DD the Kobo was the best choice because she is dyslexic and they have a great font for that. It's the only reason we picked it over a nook like mine.

I have the nook glowlight which I love because I don't have to get out of bed to turn the light off after reading

I got mine quite cheaply via Very because I was a new customer and had £15 of the first order.

Also - the nook website have all covers and chargers for £5 in the sale. Just ordered one to replace my current poundland cover :)

Also, I recommend Calibre as mentioned above. It works really well between the kindle, nook and kobo.

Just to note if you are not tech savvy.all the people "converting"books from kindle to kobo with calibre are either working with non copyright books or removing the copyright protection with illegal software. I'm not making a judgement either way .there is easy software available out there to do it.

I'm sure I saw a Kindle paper white on uk hot deals(maybe tesco?) for about £54. Also Amazon do refurbished kindles which look like new - come with all the packaging etc.

If you are going to be buying copyrighted new books Amazon are cheaper than the epub suppliers.generally.

PaulaLewis · 28/12/2013 17:30

You could get a refurbished one from Amazon.

Amazon e-books are generally cheaper than other e-book sites (based on personal research when I was thinking which e-reader to buy). I ended up with the Kindle. I have a Paperwhite which is fab for nocturnal reading without disturbing DH and is simply nicer than the drab grey of a normal Kindle.

I have a Nook, DS2 has a Kindle and DS1 has just had a Kobo mini for Christmas. There really doesn't seem to be that much difference between them.

Justyou · 28/12/2013 22:00

Does anyone know if it's worth selling kindles secondhand to any reputable companies , we have 3 as all bookworms here but got cheap tablets for Christmas so we have downloaded kindle app onto that and I was thinking of trading them somewhere.

MissPricklePants · 28/12/2013 22:09

I'm debating getting a kobo, is it difficult to convert kindle files?

Hulababy · 28/12/2013 22:20

JUstyou I would hold off trying to sell them on just yet until your DC have used their tablets for reading a while longer.

Both me and DD have a Kindle (basic one) and tablets and phones with a Kindle ap. Both of us NEVER use the app tablet is much heavier to hold when reading and much bigger too, so not as easy to handle especially if reading laying in bed. Also, the tablet screens are reflective so reading in the sun is a no no, or a strong light shinging on it. I also have a Kindle Fire - again I never use to read on it; rarely use it full stop tbh as don't lke it as a tablet either (another story) - but I won it so at least didn't pay for it.

Hula- thanks I will hang on a while. We got the kindles as no more space for books , we have hundreds and didn't want to get rid of them but we were running out of places for them. Thanks for the advice x
