We arw well insulated in the main house but the kitchen and bathroom are in a single story extension and quite draughty.
This isn't a problem for me as I grew up in a post war prefab and you learned young to close doors or freeze to death!
Sadly the rest of my family were born in a barn and its driving me insane!
IF you close the doors, the heating only needs to be on for an hour or two a day. Leave them open and you're just heating the outdoors! WIBU to put those self closing devices on all of the main doors? It's driving me bonkers!

The extension is insulated, but has loads of draughts. It is exceptionally windy where we live and it just seems to work its way in!
If people would just close the doors...
We're up for a remortgage next month and hopefully some equity release which means I can make some changes to the layout of the place, but given that dp makes a huge fuss about wasting money and turning out lights but then let's all of the heat out, I feel that action is required in the meantime!

YANBU. In your situation, it would drive me bonkers. I would love to install lights that turn off when the last person leaves the room. Does my head in. Why leave a lamp on or the main light on in a room when not a soul is in said room? yes DH, looking at you and your money/energy wasting ways.

Our house has connecting doors in every room downstairs - so if you close one door it creates a draught that undoubtedly will force one of the other doors to open. Drives me crackers.

Cocodale · 27/12/2013 13:26

We have one on our sitting room door, open doors drive me crazy, easy to fit go and get some x

We have those spring things on our downstairs loo (irritates me when the door is left open and the loo seat up) and on the garden gate.

Not too springy, wouldn't trap your fingers, but does let the door close of it's own accord.

Really cheap at the DIY store, less than £5 each, quick to fix on.

Solved the problem!

NoComet · 27/12/2013 13:30

We too have an extension, it faces due north and houses the study(warmish from all the computers running 24/7), downstairs loo, hall and door to outside.

The door is old and drafty, the hall is freezing. This is not a problem if persons going out to trampoline shut the door to the kitchen and the rest of the house, which is nice and warm Angry

MammaTJ · 27/12/2013 14:13

I must shout 'Shut the door behind you' about a million times a day!

Why is it so difficult?

YANBU!

MandatoryMongoose · 27/12/2013 15:03

YANBU

but

My DF had those spring things on his doors and they were quite vicious. DD was staying there as a toddler and managed to get her fingers in the (sure there's a proper word I've forgotten) hinge side of the door - springy thing tried to force it closed and took the top of her little finger off.

So just beware if there are small curious children around.

poshfrock · 27/12/2013 15:35

My SIL's new build house had them in and her toddler lost the top of a finger too. FIL spent a morning removing them all as a result. So just be careful with small children around.
