Just putting DCs Xmas stuff away.

Got them both a couple of the striped popcorn box things from Cox & Cox.

Went to take off sticker from bottom and was bit taken a back to see a dotcomgiftshop sticker on the bottom.

They are only 1.50 cheaper at dotcomgiftshop. I know businesses have to make money but am a bit shocked at Cox & Cox buying stuff from there to sell on their shiney expensive site!

I trawl through the booklets that get sent to me Cox and Cox, not on the high street, presents for women, presents for men. I then look on ebay. I saw the doorstops shaped like spilt ice cream cornets. Some companies were charging £9.99. Ebay - £2.99. Always search on ebay !

That's interesting. I had no idea stores mark up was so small. How can they afford to reduce so much in the sale?

TippiShagpile · 26/12/2013 19:45

I've had issues with faulty stuff and two messed up deliveries. Their customer service was shocking when I complained. Would never use them again.

Ok NotYouNanBread is that 2.5 times or 2.5 % ? I assumed the later but on re-reading I think I'm mistaken.

NotYouNaanBread · 27/12/2013 07:48

Sorry - I when I say 2.5 I mean x2.5 or 250% of the trade price. It seems like a lot but it's barely enough to keep a roof over your head when you factor in rent, rates, insurance, utilities, staff etc.

If you're retailing online your overheads are obviously less (although postage can devour a lot of your margin, depending on the product), but you have to spend ££££ on marketing so that if YOU want a sparkly twig, MY sparkly twig shop is the 1st hit on google, or email in your inbox etc (I don't sell sparkly twigs, btw!). You can't rely on foot traffic or convenience etc.

That markup doesn't go far, sadly.
