To think John Lewis 'special purchase' is bollocks

Products that they buy in and label as special purchase. No previous sale price as they are not stocked items so they don't have to follow the sale rules (28 days at previous price, etc.) so are they are bargain or not?
Half the stuff i just viewed in the supposed 'clearance sale' they just launched is 'special purchase'. How is that clearance?

Does it matter? It's good value or it isn't.

all special purchase stuff is crap
Next brings out cheap crappy special purchase stuff at sale time too

SilverOldie · 24/12/2013 20:07

So don't buy anything. Simple.

We got some JL towels as wedding presents (a v long time ago) which were lovely. Still are nearly 14 years later. I saved up and bought some more in the clearance a year or two later. They were horrible, and quickly relegated to swimming towels.

It matters because its fraudulent. The products wouldn't normally be stocked by them as they are not to there usual standard, they buy em in at 'clearance' and flog that am at still over inflated price. They are not product clearance and shouldn't be in a clearance sale. Very un John Lewis.

I think you will find that JL always make it clear that their definition of Special Purchase is a product that is a special item with its own price, and is available during the sale. It doesn't mean it has to be reduced in price.

They aren't fraudulent, you do need to be Sale Savvy and check their small print either displayed near the item or on their website.

It isnt un-JL they have been doing it for years!
