And not fall into dog or cat camp? It just seems that most people who love dogs hate cats and vice versa. For me it is like this....I love dogs but we have a cat as it is just easier and cheaper. Love all my friends dogs though. Merry Christmas everyone!

Not lazy SB, proberly sensible as it is a chore when winter hits and you got the dog in spring. You do get to enjoy it (honest) and I now look forward to it.

Dogs with coats-I do like that actually. I imagine I would be fitter if I had a dog though. I do go walking for fun but feel a bit of a wally without a dog/pushchair or some reason for the walk IYKWIM.

I grew up with cats and adored them then but since having dogs as an adult I have become less fond of them. My dogs are seriously un-cat-friendly which seems to have tainted things and now they're just bothersome creatures to be shooed from the garden before they get eaten.

I love cats, grew up with one. Never had a dog but I like them.

DP grew up with dogs, loves them, didn't like cats at all.

We got a kitten and DP loves her. She behaves like a dog sometimes. Plays Fetch and digs in the garden.

I grew up with cats & like cats best, but dogs are OK.

DH grew up with dogs & prefers them - he's a bit indifferent to cats.

So to keep both of us happy we have three dogs & two cats, so the DC have the best of both worlds. Of the DC, one has a preference for dogs, the other two like cats best.

Dogs are really sweet. I'm looking after a friends dog tomorrow and looking forward to it. Cats though, yuck.

I love both though am a bit scared of some dogs. I have 2 cats atm and have had to have 3 animals PTS since May .

I prefer cats and it wouldn't be fair to a dog to keep it cooped up all day when we're at work but I grew up with both.

My brother is a both person despite being mildly allergic to cats. He has 2 rescue Staffies and a kitten he found dumped in a lay by. And 4 horses. I do feel people who like neither are a bit odd.

I adore dogs and am allergic to cats, but I keep a cat, to help keep my allergy at a manageable level because all my family are cat people, regular exposure to cats mean I can visit them comfortably.

I love my cat, but I'm not really a cat person, iyswim.

No it's not unreasonable to like both, but I've yet to meet someone who doesn't favour one over the other for some small reason.

The OP for example likes dogs, but thinks cats are easier, that to most would mean a cat preference (I personally don't think cats are easier). I'd want a dog before I'd want a cat, but I don't dislike cats (I know some very lovely cats). I also prefer girl dogs but don't hate boy dogs. Girls are just my preference.

I like both! Grew up with dogs, dh grew up with cats - got a cat as didn't have room for a dog and fell in love with cat. Now have room for a dog and plan to get one when the time is right!

I love cats. All of them. There's an advert (for a phone company I think) of a man running through a field with lots of cats. The idea of that would be very heaven for me. Then throwing myself down in the grass and letting them all climb on me and then hugging each and everyone of the little furry beauties.

If we had a dog I would adore it every bit as much as our wonderful cat, but as a species I don't feel the same love for them as I do felines.

I love pretty much all animals. I don't think it has to be one or the other. My general preference is for cats, though I think when I retire (if ever - ha I will have to work until I drop dead at this rate) I would like dogs and cats :) And maybe a house rabbit and a horse and........

One thing I have noticed though on another forum (but not here so far). A lot of people with dogs said they hated cats. They seemed very strong in their dislike. But none of the people with cats hated dogs, just maybe disliked them or had a preference for cats. Hate is a strong word and the dog people certainly seemed more intolerant than the cat people which I found was very odd indeed. It all comes down to the individual really. Some cats I don't like and many dogs I adore.
