stocking dilemma

I know this is my fault really but I blame dh. Dd is 9 and doesn't totally believe in Santa, however she plays along with it and has a giant stocking which we bought her a few years ago. Earlier she was looking at the Norad Santa Tracker. Well we had only bought her about 10 things as she is getting a big present this year of a kindle, but I asked my Mum and Sister to buy her lots of cheapish things so she would have quite a lot of presents and, bless them, they went a bit mad so she has loads under the tree, plus a few things from cousins. Dh then gave her all our stuff to put under the tree, but there is nothing saved for the stocking. I asked him and he was a bit funny and said she has plenty if not too much. But I feel a bit sad now and I wish I had told mum and dh to keep back a few bits for the stocking. My excuse is I have not been well and have been leaving most things to dh. She has had a look at the presents too and counted them so it would be difficult to sneak some from under the tree but i might be able to manage a couple.

If she usually has a stocking, then you should do her a stocking, whether or not she really believes. Just take a few of the smaller bits from under the tree for it. I think she'd be more disappointed not to have a stocking than to have fewer than she counted under the tree.

I agree take a couple of the smaller things from under the tree, add in a chocolate bar or two and other odd things (DS has shampoo this year - ha!).

I did buy DS a few things for his stocking for then forgot and wrapped the lot. He has also counted them as this is the first year I have put them under the tree already (also 9!). I am betting that he won't be counting again in the morning so I'm going to unwrap a few things and out them in the stocking.

She will forgot what she counted and not care in the excitment.

Take some from under the tree and put them in the stocking.

If anything is said just start singing Jingle Bells to her. Xmas Smile

She won't care tomorrow.

Thanks I will, it would seem mean not to do the stocking now she has hung it up. I think she knows there is no Santa but we shouldn't have let her put up the stocking if we weren't going to fill it. Unfortunately it won't be stuffed full as it is a big one but I will put some bits in it.
My dh doesn't seem to get this. Next year I will be more organised whether we do it or not! (maybe)

Would a packet of Jaffa cakes, a bouncy ball, bubbles and a Christmas cracker fill it up? And an orange!

(Make sure its a different colour cracker to those on the table)

Yes there must be a satsuma and you could maybe put in a bottle of nail varnish if you have a new ish one or do a mercy dash to the garage and get a magazine and some sweets.

chocolatecrispies · 24/12/2013 20:39

What did you decide to do OP? I am feeling nervous for your poor dd with an empty stocking on Christmas morning :(.

3bunnies · 24/12/2013 20:44

Can you split any of the presents so there are the same number but wrapped differently? Plus wrap some different things to put under tree. Our nearly 9yr old only just holding on to her belief but shouted down by the 4&6 yr olds. Hope you get something sorted.

Vivacia · 24/12/2013 20:57

I don't get it. Do you wrap the stocking-fillers? Does your daughter count how many presents she has?

TidyDancer · 24/12/2013 21:01

Could you rewrap a couple of the ones that have been put under the tree so she doesn't work it out?

phantomnamechanger · 24/12/2013 21:03

I think she wont count the gifts from under the tree as she opens them, so use some of those for the stocking - wrapped in different paper should do the trick - plus as others have said any odds of choc/fruit/biscuits you have laid around -a jam jar filled with handfuls of quality street and tied with ribbon looks nice, even an individual can of coke or bottle of J20 is a nice gift if wrapped up, and fills the stocking a bit more

revivingsnowshower · 24/12/2013 21:42

Don't worry I have pinched some from under the tree plus found a few packets of sweets and rewrapped. I am hoping she won't notice and will forget the number she counted.
