Thank you to everyone who worked through the storm overnight.

I don't care if you are working in a hospital, clearing railway lines, reconnecting electricity cables or finding people who were stranded.

You have all done a fantastic job.

It is never unreasonable to say thank you - in fact, too few people take the time to do it.

You are a good person with a great heart, and on your behalf I say THANK YOU as well

CaptainHindsight · 24/12/2013 11:57

YANBU - you're being thoughtful.

And another Thank you to those who will be providing services all across the country while others are tucking into their xmas dinner.

Flowers and thanks

At 8.30 a.m. last New Year's Eve we lost power and it remained off until 23.55. There was a gang of three blokes working in the road in driving rain to get it done. DW and I had scuttled off to the last empty Travelodge room for miles around but I heard later that when it came back on one of our neighbours celebrated by putting on the kettle and taking them the coffee they so richly deserved. Well done that woman.

30 000 homes without power in the next town from me and they are talking about not getting it back on for tomorrow either, poor beggars Sad

phantomnamechanger · 24/12/2013 13:24

and yes, well said sashh, hear hear!

meditrina · 25/12/2013 00:33

Hear hear!

I've just watched the late news (before sneaking around with stockings) and have been so struck by just how many people, from so many different organisations, are still doing so very much.

Thanks

Thank you to all the train staff on various convoluted services today. I got from West Sussex to Bath before Santa arrived! A 14 hour journey made bearable by helpful staff with good communication - thank you! (Especially the scottish chap hollering announcements on the bannisters at Gatwick Airport - when the PA had broken)

scaevola · 25/12/2013 09:16

Yes, well done all.

I hope that working on Christmas Day (especially for those who wouldn't usually expect to be called in, like the staff of the Isle of Man ferry) can prove to be one of those bizarrely uplifting occasions. Xmas Smile

Thought thought go out to all those bereaved, or with flood, or without power.

DH is a fireman, they called off the strike here in Kent because there was just so much going on, none of them felt right continuing with it. He has been out since 02:30 yesterday morning. He managed to get home for an hour yesterday afternoon for something to eat and a shower but was back out shortly after.

He'll hopefully be back soon! Even though I haven't seen him in over 24 hours, I still wouldn't trade places with the hundreds of people with water damaged or flooded houses, or with half their house missing etc. Lots of people not having a great Christmas here, it certainly makes you grateful.
