Cooking with inferior tools

AIBU to think that its (impossible?) to be a good cook with inferior tools or is it a case of "a poor workman blames his tools"?

I ask because we are in a place temporarily and there has been no point buying good kitchen stuff. Ive been making do with cheap and bare minimum. Like camping, I guess.

Do you think a good cook can make do with anything? (including a frypan which doesnt sit flat on the hot plate anymore).

Hmm I think you need reasonable equipment and a frying pan that's buckled won't conduct heat evenly. In the past I moved frequently and the best thing about pots and pans and decent knives is that they're very portable.

I didn't buy the kenwood chef until we were settled but some decent pans, knives, & bits and pieces were acquired as and when I could afford them and I moved them with me. They don't need to cost a fortune either. TkMaxx is great for kitchen stuff

I have a shockingly naff hob. It makes cooking harder. I will be saving for a new one next year.

Good kitchen equipment is essential I think. My steel pans are over 30 years old and still in good nick. I have a carbon steerl carving knife which belonged to my grandmother and is at least 60 years old. I use it every day. My biggest indulgence is a Kitchen Aid mixer!

I think you need good tools to make a good meal. Sharp knives are an essential, and I'd swear that anything cooked in cast-iron lecruset tastes better.

I have shit pans and not enough baking trays since I moved into this house.

It is harder.
