To think you should receive/sent Christmas cards before Christmas Day?

Just wondered as a guest I am having on Boxing Day says they will bring my card then when I (jokingly) asked where it was. Honestly don't bother as I don't send cards for people to receive after Christmas Day. AIBU?

Nope, I don't get why cards are worthless after Christmas Day. So long as it's before the 2nd jan it's still in the Christmas period.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 23/12/2013 08:01

Disclaimer we have swopped presents already and I gave them my card then.

It's a bit disorganised of them. I've never left it that late as I agree, a card celebrating a specific event seems a bit pointless if given after that event. I don't think I would care less though in your situation. I don't care what other people do as much as I care about what I do.

ViviPru · 23/12/2013 08:03

n.b what I mean is, it would bother me more if I was the late card giver than were someone to give me a late card....

HopelessCaseNumeroUno · 23/12/2013 08:05

We post to people we don't see over Christmas, otherwise we take cards and presents when we see them. If we weren't going to see people until early January I'd probably post it in advance but depends on the people I think. I have friends who we're not seeing until January 3rd this year and we're taking cards and presents with us.

DamnBamboo · 23/12/2013 08:09

Depends on what the card says though doesn't it.

If it says seasons greetings, then how is it too late?

Honestly, who cares!

NicknameIncomplete · 23/12/2013 08:09

If you have swapped presents already they maybe forgot to give you your card. Not a big deal.

Twattyzombiebollocks · 23/12/2013 08:30

I usually hand out cards a couple of days before Christmas

mumaa · 23/12/2013 09:38

If it was your birthday you would probably get your card on the day...

I think cards are a waste of money to be honest, they just go in the bin/recycling... We get cards for certain people who demand not only a card but ones with a specific title on them, it's painful, but I have found a shop that sells them at a reasonable price, so doesn't feel too wasteful, seems a bit pointless to me, otherwise I don't really bother

winkywinkola · 23/12/2013 09:46

Who cares?

fay144 · 23/12/2013 09:53

I don't see the point in giving cards to people I will see over the Christmas period in person. If someone had given me a present and/or will see me on boxing day, I wouldn't expect a card too. No point writing to say "Merry Xmas" if you can say it in person.

Joysmum · 23/12/2013 09:55

I only do cards for the people I see on Christmas day (hubby's family) and Boxing Day (when my mob come).

We much prefer exchanging in person.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 23/12/2013 16:36

Thanks for the replies. I think the poster upthread who said they wouldn't like to send a card after Christmas is what I meant. I suppose I can't control when I receive it iyswim.

I now send ecards to distant friends and relatives, and send the money saved to a charity (Shelterbox) because it's 50p for a 2nd class stamp! Even my octogenarian friends think it is a good idea. I don't send cards to local friends, neighbours and family who I shall see. I did get involved bullied into a secret Santa with a group of friends and gave cards to all as well as the one present as it would have been anti-social not to.

loisismyhero · 23/12/2013 16:54

There are 12 days of Christmas. It ends on January 6th. A card on Boxing Day is perfectly acceptable if you're into that sort of thing.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 23/12/2013 16:59

A card any time during the Christmas period is reasonable. Yonks before the start of Christmas I.e Christmas Eve is just annoying and they usually get lost down the back of the sofa.
