To take them back and wrap them for Christmas morning?

The children are 1 and 3, myself and the husband (and the eldest) have all been ill with the stomach flu today and have basically sat on the sofa trying not to be sick all day.

I ended up breaking out a pretty cool selection of die cast cars I bought just to keep them occupied until bedtime which worked beautifully.

WIBU to just hide them now and wrap them up for Christmas Day? I didn't want to filter the magic but we were pretty desperate!

Eh? Why would you re-wrap them? Surely it's just one less gift for Wednesday?

isitsnowingyet · 22/12/2013 19:29

Go for it! Hope you're both feeling better before the big day. My DD opened a present from her friend yesterday because 'she didn't realise you weren't supposed to open things before christmas' (age 8 I think she DID realise) but has re-wrapped and put under the Christmas tree now Confused

Geckos48 · 22/12/2013 19:29

Well, yes I suppose, we are getting rid of all the toys currently in the lounge to make way for the new ones so I will have to try and keep them seperate til then regardless.

I wouldn't bother re-wrapping them.

HyvaPaiva · 22/12/2013 19:31

They have them now, so one less on Christmas Day. If having them, playing with them, and then wrapping them were reasonable you wouldn't need to buy gifts in the first place, you'd just wrap their current stuff!

OHforDUCKSchristmasCake · 22/12/2013 19:35

one left gift for Wednesday

Wednesday? WEDNESDAY?!

Thats not what its called! Its Christmas Day!

Thats like calling the Queen 'Lizzy'.

Tsk. It just wont do.

BrownSauceSandwich · 22/12/2013 19:38

Do whatever you have to. I had the plague last week, and I would have sold my children into slavery if it'd have made me feel better.

Geckos48 · 22/12/2013 19:38

I have been known to dig out old stock and re-wrap it!

I'll just spend tomorrow separating the old stuff out and leave them in a box before de-cluttering to make way for the new stuff.

Is there a reason you want to do this?

Will it make a significant difference to the amount of presents they have left to open?

If yes, then I can see why you might want to but if not I really wouldn't

It's not going to spoil the magic having a present early. It's not from Santa, it's from you and DH

This is exactly how we both feel, both aching and sore and still having occasional pangs of nastiness. Neither of us have eaten all day apart from a banana each which someone on here said would be best.

Making lunch and tea for the kids was just horrendous. Had to take it in turns so as not to vomit.

I am so glad they are in bed.

We only give them stockings from Santa anyway, truthfully we were planning on giving the very special cars to them in the stocking. No they have loads to open, all second hand but good stuff that they will love or need.

Have done really well this year, managed to get all the gifts for around £200 and that was given to us by the grandparents!

We gave the DDs their big gift (something to share) today, on the basis that (a) it was cold wet and miserable and it meant they played together harmoniously inside nearly all day and (b) they will have so much (not just presents but attention and fuss and special food) on Christmas Day that it's absolutely fine to spread the magic hysteria out a bit. So shoot me me, Christmas traditionalists!

Geckos48 · 22/12/2013 19:58

hand I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Give them a present to keep them out of your hair occupied until you feel better OP. they are little and it's good to spread out the presents. They'll play with each one properly and you will be able to get better. As for tea, sandwiches won't kill them. Forget cooking. Get well soon!

MrsLouisTheroux · 22/12/2013 20:25

That should say : Give them a present every day until you feel better.

Geckos48 · 22/12/2013 20:28

Thanks, sandwiches have featured quite heavily in today's meals I have to say... We gave them yogurts at lunchtime which we instantly regretted because it made them smell all yogurty!

Being ill sucks, in 9 years this is the first time we have been ill at exactly the same time, usually it is staggered so one or the other can deal with the kids and fetch for the ill one.

Awful for you OP. keep making sandwiches and keep opening the presents. They are only 1 and 3 so will be thrilled with their Christmas stocking presents on Wednesday morning. :)
