To go out without DS on Christmas Eve?

RandallFloyd · 21/12/2013 16:39

DS is 2.4, doesn't not understand Christmas at all. He knows what presents are, and who Father Christmas is (although he scares the very bejesus out of him) and he sings jingle bells beautifully, but if I asked him who brings the presents he would look at me completely blank.

Basically Christmas Eve is going to be exactly the same to him as every other Wednesday, he certainly wouldn't understand the 'leave a mince pie for FC', 'hang your stocking' type stuff and would in no way understand that Father Christmas is coming tomorrow.

So anyway, my friends and I always go for a Chinese on Christmas Eve, have done for many years. It's one of my favourite Christmas things. This year I booked a place for DS too as it just didn't occur to me to leave him for the evening on Christmas Eve.

I'm now doubting myself. He won't eat anything off the menu, I know that for a fact, so I'm basically going to have to entertain him with smuggled in bread sticks and I'll have to leave early as it's not fair to expect him to sit at a table for a long drawn out Chinese banquet when he's not even eating any of it!

AIB really U to be considering going without him?

It really isn't going to be any fun for him so I'd almost decided not to go but now XDH has offered to babysit so I'm torn. I haven't spent a second (other than at work) away from DS for 6 weeks and although I'm really looking forward to the next few years of properly magical children's Christmases, I'm kind of veering towards making the most of my last un-childlike one for a long while.

I'm a terrible mother aren't I.

Go! And next year leave him at home asleep after hanging stocking etc and go. Toddlers in restaurants at night is miserable for everyone.

Amrapaali · 21/12/2013 17:20

But it's Xmas Eve!! You are a bad, bad mother, Randall. Do you want to scar your son for life? And Santa is watching you. He is real.....

( nope, sorry, couldn't keep a straight face)

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 21/12/2013 18:13

Oh god, get yourself out to the Chinese!

piratecat · 21/12/2013 18:16

oh go go go. it'll be great to go out. you have many xmas eves to come where you're trapped waiting to put the stocking out!

RandallFloyd · 21/12/2013 18:45

This all may be a moot point very soon.
He's insisting on 'helping' me wrap the presents.

I may take him back for a refund.

Guitargirl · 21/12/2013 19:14

I am the biggest Christmas freak when it comes to the DCs but even I think you should go and enjoy yourself, unless you end up feeling guilty (which I don't think you should), in which case, stay at home and get a takeaway!

loveolives · 21/12/2013 19:16

YABU.

Joke.

He'll be in bed, go!!!!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/12/2013 19:17

Can I come too, please?

RandallFloyd · 21/12/2013 19:18

Thank you Lizzy.

I can't believe that last year I hid in the corner wearing a massive baggy top and size 16 jeans feeling depressed as shit . This year I've got my skinnies and a new size 8 strappy vest top thing. I'll be freezing my non-existent tits off but I don't care!

God last Christmas was horrible. What a difference a year make eh?

Happy Christmas to you too, couldn't have don't it without you Thanks

Typo Central three t you get what I mean!

I feel quite bad now actually. I thought for sure that I was going to get absolutely roasted with lots of 'but think of the chiiiiiildreeeen' type posts.

MN, yet again I have judged you too harshly.

Actually if you did take your DS on a girly night out for Chinese food and wine on Christmas Eve I'd beat you upside the head with a frozen turkey and throw soggy sausage rolls at you.

The whole point of Christmas Eve is that you send your kids to bed Very Very Early and then get pissed relax.

Have fun!!

RandallFloyd · 21/12/2013 19:28

Well why did no one tell me that?

I thought I was meant to be torturing myself snuggling up on the sofa bedecked in new pyjamas drinking fecking vile hot chocolate and watching terrible Christmas films.

(Disclaimer:- if that's what you and your family love to do then crack on, enjoy every minute. My DS can't sit still long enough to fart yet let alone cuddle up all the way through a film. And I bloody hate hot chocolate!)

You will look spectacular and have a fab time.
Goodness we just get the kids the bed earlyish then drink loads anyway, you deserve some time to let loose. Looking fabulous in your size 8 skinnies and slinky top Smile . Fantastic.

Sidge · 21/12/2013 19:32

You'll learn, my lovely

My Christmas Eves usually consist of dinner, bathtime etc then reindeer food, carrot in the garden, mince pie and red wine for the big beardy bloke. Then kids off to bed whilst I collapse on the sofa watching crap telly, eating my body weight in Quality Street and Pringles and getting slightly pissed.

However this year my girls are with their dad for Christmas and I've got a hot date with a younger man Grin

RandallFloyd · 21/12/2013 19:49

Well jel of your hot date Xmas Envy

I love that someone else puts red wine out.
I always wanted to leave sherry and a mince pie because that's what all my friends did. My dad wisely advised that FC was probably a bit sick of sherry and mice pies by the time he got to us so would much rather have a nice glass of red with some cheese and crackers!

(The jeans are still a 10 sadly, the old child-bearing hips stubbornly cling on but still, it's a bloody big improvement on 12 months ago Xmas Grin)

Lizzylou · 21/12/2013 19:50

Really not splitting hairs between size 8 and size 10 Randall! Grin

RandallFloyd · 22/12/2013 12:03

Well, it's official, high chair is cancelled.

I told my friend I'd been feeling guilty about it.
She told me to stop being a twat. Xmas Blush
