…. because there were unusual transactions on my account.

Yup, that will be because it is Christmas and I've been present buying you morons.

So now 4 days before Christmas I have no functional credit card. There will also now be issues about trying to return gifts I have already bought as the account will no longer be active to receive refunds.

You seriously couldn't make it up. So AIBU in thinking their fraud detection software should have some seasonal flexibility build in?

It's not CREDIT, it's CREDIT CARD. World of difference. Every penny I spend (ish) goes on a credit card that is paid off every month.
Actually if you don't do that, or if you use your debit card online, then you're being a bit daft.

Exactly the same thing happened to Dh last year. We were on the bus going into town to get the last few Christmas presents when the bank rang to tell him they were cancelling his card due to an unusually high number of transactions. He said of course it was higher than usual, he'd been Christmas shopping, but to no avail. They couldn't reinstate it and he had to wait for a new card. We were very glad we don't rely on a joint account!

That's crazy. With my bank I have to answer specific questions and they will re-activate the card if that happens.
