AIBU to think it's obvious how Sherlock faked his death?

I can tell you if you like. All this 'there's one thing everyone is missing'. Oh no there isn't. It's simples.

Um. No. John checked his pulse and looked right at his face himself.

Next theory that hasn't been all over the 'net already.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/12/2013 09:20

Remember the tennis ball in that episode ?

Hold one tight in your arm pit in the right sorta way and your pulse will stop.

I bloody love Sherlock, we are going to be in the States, but my DH is whizzy on the computer, so can make his laptop think it's in London and we will be watching live! Can't wait

Helpyourself · 21/12/2013 09:22

Aha tennis ball...
I can't remember the logistics of the last episode, but I do know you can stop the pulse in your wrist by putting a tennis ball in your armpit and squeezing. In fact I'm going to practise for my post christmas dinner party trick as last time I tried I was a bit rubbish- 'wait a sec, now try, feel here, can you feel it, wait a second, now try...'

I actually know...probably.

Sherlock said to Watson, "I'm a fake" and "keep your eyes on me"

Sherlock on top of the building isn't the one who falls first, he pushes someone/a body off. Everyone watches that one fall, Sherlock then jumps into the bin cart positioned infront of the body while Watson is knocked over by the bike. Either Sherlock swaps with the body or just goes off with the bin cart. He has enough blood/scratches to look like the orginal jumper but not enough to kill him. He survives his fall.

I didn't watch it before, just looked it up on you tube so could be well off, but that's what it looks like to me.

SomethingkindaOod · 21/12/2013 10:14

John had been knocked over by a well placed bike rider and hit his head so he wouldn't have been seeing straight. It would have been easier to fool him.
DH had a great theory going for ages about it being a mass hallucination using the gas that was used in the Hounds of the Baskervilles episode.

IneedAsockamnesty · 21/12/2013 10:32

When's it on again?

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 21/12/2013 10:44

ClutchingPearls that sounds very plausible.

I know Alan Davies mentioned the tennis ball/pulse thing because he was saying that they used it in a plot for Jonathon Creek many years ago.

rumbleinthrjungle · 21/12/2013 12:07

There was also the clue from the first episode of that season where Irene Adler successfully faked her own death with corpse provided, so well that Holmes was taken in for a while. I agree Molly provided an appropriate body, and one of the Baker Street irregulars was the cyclist that clobbered Watson so he was concussed and staggering when he was within view and contact with the body.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 21/12/2013 12:22

I have a couple of questions. Is Moriarty definitely dead (I'll be sad if he is) and how will Sherlock re-establish his reputation?

ClutchingPearls · 21/12/2013 12:53

Just watched it again. I think Molly is driving the bin cart and helps swap Sherlock/the body over. I think the body is Moriarty (sp) and that's how the blood is around the head area on Sherlock.

CleverWittyUsername · 21/12/2013 13:24

What are the 'irregulars' people are referring to?

SuburbanCrofter · 21/12/2013 14:12

However he did it, Sherlock did not use a dead body to push over the roof, because you can clearly see the person's arms flapping as they fall - whoever it is, they are alive at least when they fall from the roof.

Tennis ball thing is interesting, hadn't noticed that before.

ClutchingPearls · 21/12/2013 14:17

I think the footage of Sherlock falling is him falling into the bin cart. Its just the one hitting the ground isn't him. I think it falls too flat to be alive.

MerryChristmasMollyHooper · 21/12/2013 14:19

It's all lies I tell you!

BitOfFunWithSanta · 21/12/2013 14:20

Wasn't it a squash ball? Anyway, I can't bloody wait.

butterfliesinmytummy · 21/12/2013 14:24

I think someone else jumps and Sherlock is already on the ground, probably hiding in the doorway as he chats to John. As long as the person on the roof is similar height / build as Sherlock, it would look like him and the fact that John gets a call from someone saying "I'm up here", he would link the person on the roof to Sherlock iyswim.

Not sure who jumps, or why but I think it's too difficult to fake the body on the ground.

Can't wait for the new series.....

FrankelInFoal · 21/12/2013 14:56

The Empty Hearse is on 1st Jan, with the second episode on 5th.

Just be warned, some very stupid people who were lucky enough to see the BFI screening of The Empty Hearse last week have been putting spoilers up on Twitter and Tumblr, so beware if you don't want to know beforehand.

Sparkletshirt · 21/12/2013 16:29

But I want to know, I want to know!!! But not until January 1st...

The irregulars - are they Sherlocks homeless network?

I'm not a Sherlock fanatic you probably noticed but I hope the return's as good as the first episode was. I had a demanding 1 yo so didn't get to pay too much attention to the rest. And I've missed the repeats Xmas Sad

My prediction: Moriarty will stay dead as he did in the books. Sherlock knew in advance of going on the roof what was going to happen up there which is why he approached Molly and said he did need her. He needed her to set it up. He knew about the code. I'm also voting for the bin lorry being a key part of it. I love the "I'm a fake" and "Keep your eyes on me"... I think you're right that this is a critical statement and it hadn't occured to me. John was certainly knocked over deliberately. Some of the best TV ever, and I can't wait until the next series! And I am so in love with BC ;) I even named my youngest after him (well, his middle name)! (And yes, Hubby did know where my suggestion came from; he thought it was funny and fortunately he liked the name!).
