Following on from the mushroom book thread, I am curious about presents children have received from their teacher. I'm a teacher and bought a Roald Dahl book(several sets bought from the Book People) and a small chocolateor everyone. Thankfully I jobshare and we split the cost this year!

I'm a secondary teacher and I bought everyone in my form one of those rulers where you put your own design in and then snap on the plastic. They loved designing the pictures to put in, and it is essential school equipment. I also bought cellophane snowman bags and filled them with a variety of sweets and tied them with ribbon.

DS got a set of three books called something like "Flashing Fire Engines", "Roaring Racing Cars" and I can't remember the other. Nice books, possibly a wee bit young for him, but he is the eldest in Reception, and he should be able to read them for himself soonish.

hippoherostandinghere · 20/12/2013 20:00

Ds got a selection box and a candy cane. Wouldn't expect anything else tbh.

DoItTooBabyJesus · 20/12/2013 20:02

Ds has come home with a book. Don't know what it is as he hasn't opened it yet.

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2013 20:11

My year 6 DS's teacher bought them all a David Walliams book.

I want to read it when he's finished Grin

CandyCanesWhipsandChains · 20/12/2013 20:37

ds1 a cupcake in fancy box ,ds2 snowman soup and chocolate coins ,ds3 a book called Henry's holiday

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/12/2013 20:40

I bought my form a bag of chocolate coins each (6th form).

Where did you get the rulers from, Spikey?

A Christmas sticker activity book & a pencil. She's in reception, in love with her teacher (& school in general)! I have no doubt if will be her #1 present!

indyandlara · 20/12/2013 20:54

Love the snapping rulers and the snowman soup. Where did you get the rulers from? Always looking for some ideas for the next year! Just realised I have put this in AIBU rather than chat. Sorry!

In 25 years of teaching I have never bought my entire class a present. I might take in a tin of sweets to hand round but I prefer to spen my money on my own children ans I seem to spend most of my time dealing with other people's. Sorry, sound like the Grinch and I am a genuinely popular teacher but have never come across people buying gifts for entire classes. I do top up the Secret Santa for pupils who forget / can't afford to contribute.

SpikeyChristmasTree · 20/12/2013 21:12

rulers here they loved them. Some just did names, some favourite bands etc. Took up a morning form period to make them as well!

indyandlara · 20/12/2013 21:18

They look ideal for summer gifts. Thanks. I've never worked anywhere where whole class gifts weren't bought!

My P2 (6) got a Christmas book & a Kinder bar

My P5 (8) got a selection box & pen/rubber combo.

I don't remember them getting anything last year.

HamletsSister · 20/12/2013 21:29

Maybe Primary? Never seen it in Secondary - have worked in 7 schools in England and Scotland, state and private.

SpikeyChristmasTree · 20/12/2013 21:33

It is about 50/50 in my secondary school. I try to get something useful and something fun. I see these kids for 3 hours a week for 4 years, so it just seems right. I also have spare secret Santa gifts just in case.

indyandlara · 20/12/2013 21:36

Hamletsister, think it may be. I'm primary and know all my friends in other schools buy gifts too.

nowt - all in primary

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/12/2013 21:39

DS had a lovely little stocking with a pencil and eraser, and a lolly and small chocolate bar. He was absolutely made up Smile

muminthecity · 20/12/2013 21:44

DD (Y3) got a Jacqueline Wilson journal, 2 candy canes and some chocolates. She is a massive JW fan so was overjoyed.

My class (reception) got a nice book each and a handful of quality street.

Cakesorpies · 20/12/2013 22:20

In primary I don't buy individual presents but this year I did buy some books for our next topic for the class and a calendar. I wrapped them up as pass the parcel and all of the kids got a chocolate or a lolly. To be honest most of the kids don't celebrate Christmas so it was just a bit of fun.
I have never bought presents at Christmas or the end of the year. They wouldn't thank me for it and the just come to expect them (a child said last year 'where's our presents?) had to bite my tongue at that one.

TheMuppetsSingChristmas · 20/12/2013 22:31

Ds1's teacher bought all her class a book, from various Book People sets, so no more than £1 I'm guessing. I thought it was an incredibly thoughtful present and generous too, that's still £35 for her entire class, when she could have just done the whole box of chocs handed round thing.

Lilacroses · 20/12/2013 22:37

My lovely jobshare partner and I got the kids these little fabric bags that they decorated with fabric paint. Then we hung them up and filled them with Christmas stickers, sweets, balloons, a Christmas badge and then I made some little charm bracelets with Christmas charms on. Dd helped me with that. The children were really excited, it was lovely.

GW297 · 20/12/2013 23:07

I bought my class a little pencil set and a chocolate Christmas lollipop each this year. I often buy sticker books or similar. Books from the book people make great class gifts. I have bought my class a book each in the past.
