To want to charity shop these teddies?

Ils asked us for ideas for dcs, we gave them an idea of a DVD they could share, easy to get, in all supermarkets.
Monday they gave me money saying they thought kids preferred it. Dp told them kids didn't want money, they are 3and 6 and are excited to get presents from Santa, they didn't no what to get.
So having finished my own shopping early, I went to manically busy shops and spent the money on party shoes, game, stickers, undies and I've wrapped them all too.
Fil came last night with 2 identical teddies as extra presents, they are 4ft high, they had already given a lot of money IMO and no more presents were needed but the main problem is the house is so crowded, the girls have so many teddies and the ils know we have given loads to charity recently as they have too many.
I feel like the Xmas grinch and want to give the teddies away before the girls see them and love them and they end up of the sofa like 2 extra kids they are so huge. Ggrrrrrrrr!

Not in the least!!

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 19/12/2013 13:42

And when the PIL ask "How did you like the teddies?" your DCs will say...?

muddyprints · 19/12/2013 13:50

And the ils will definitely ask about the bloody teddies, aaagghhh.
Like they comment on the ugly cat ornament every time they visit and how nice to see presents on show so I can't throw the monstrosity away.
Like they they ask dds to ask daddy for a few of the chocolates after dinner even if we weren't going to give them any chocolate that day.

Oh and they haven't wrapped them either. Shall I just go and buy more wrapping paper incase they bring more stuff next week?

Don't wrap them. Wait til they are asleep on Christmas Eve and hang the bears from the ceiling, dangling about a foot from their faces. Yes, they may be traumatised when they wake up but you will be able to charity shop the bears with no complaints.

Suggest they're too lovely for everyday use and that they are kept at the IL's house as a special treat toy...

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 19/12/2013 16:48

They are definitely "keep at Granny's house" gifts. My inlaws got DD a little doll that cried no matter what you did with it. That was far too nice for our toy box Xmas Wink

I have just howled reading that, funniest thing I've read on MN for a while!!! Grin

Tapiocapearl · 19/12/2013 17:27

You. Plus preempt the chocolate thing by saying at the start if a meal ' now there's no chocolate today' then reminding them just after the main course

OnceUponAThyme · 19/12/2013 17:32

we were given "big bear" by brother in law. fucking huge bear that practically flattens you when you open the toy cupboard in dds room.
I can only suggest scooping out all the stuffing and convincing your children they are the latest in onesie fashion.
our big bear is doomed to the loft next week to become old and mouldy.

HaPPy8 · 19/12/2013 17:33

They aren'y yours to give away so yabu, but i do understand the temptation....

NoComet · 19/12/2013 17:37

Everyone has to have a big Someone. Mega Rabbit now lives in our bedroom. Both DDS refuse to house a 4ft Bunny, so obviously he's my problem.

harriet247 · 19/12/2013 18:03

I would have lovvvvvved a massive teddy at 6- at least they tried their best but somewhat ovrr compensated!

farewellfigure · 19/12/2013 18:04

Insist the teddies sleep on dds beds. They'll get so fed up with having no room they'll be glad to see the back of them. Then suggest you give them to the school for their next teddy tombola so some other lucky child can win them.

Did it come from Ann Summers?

Mandy2003 · 19/12/2013 20:02

We had a huge dog and an enormous tiger. DS was about 4 when we moved house and understood we would not have room for them in the new place. A friend worked at an old people's home and DS was happy that the animals should go there as raffle prizes.

SuedeEffectPochette · 19/12/2013 20:11

These are hideous for the parents but this is all I wanted when I was a kid. A teddy as big as me would have been the most wonderful present I ever had. Give them to them and enjoy watching their delighted faces as they see them. Then, when you are old and your kids have left home, you can sit on your empty sofa and enjoy the space Sad

Cakesorpies · 19/12/2013 20:47

Give them to the kids then promptly ship off to school raffle or similar.

muddyprints · 20/12/2013 14:57

Teddies are still in coat cupboard. I'm not wrapping them. They can sit on the end of their beds holding the stockingsand hopefully traumatise kids and go and live with nanny.
I'm not being difficult, I'm happy to shop for them but would appreciate being asked early not just given money the week before Xmas. And of all the things dd would have loved a teddy is the last thing they need as they have so many. We have already charity shopped big bunnies and bears as we don't have room.
It's the thought that counts but I don't think they've thought, they havnt bothered looking for what we suggested, they've bunged money at us late and then seen teddies as an afterthought despite me saying all he time they have too many teddies.
