Someone stole my Christmas wreath from my front door. I'm quite annoyed and disappointed it was heart shaped and lovely and I can't find another one like it. Xmas Sad

The house I lived in at the time isn't there any more, or the street.
Slum clearance/redevelopment. We had alarms going off on a regular basis.

TheStitchWitch · 16/12/2013 21:39

Someone stole ours last week, it was only a cheap one but still really upsetting. My friend who lives opposite told me she's seen a group of lads hanging around outside our house and we're pretty sure we know who they are.
About 10 mins ago I heard running outside and then the same friend phoned me to ask if my wreath had been stolen again (we bought a new one) she saw 3 lads, one on a bike holding a wreath, so they've stolen someone elses. :(

I'll second the "make it from real holly" approach.

Justforlaughs · 17/12/2013 07:59

Either you ARE my facebook friend, or there are more than one of these wreath thieves out there! Angry

Rosa 'Frau Dagmar Hastrup (Rugosa Rosa)

Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea (Purple Japanese Barberry)

Berberis Red Leaf (Berberis ottowensis x Auricoma)

Berberis Evergreen Hedge (Berberis Stenophylla)

Ilex aquifolium (Holly)

Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa)

Pinus mugo (Mountain Pine)

Pyracantha (Firethorn)

Dog Rose (Rosa Canina)

Blue Pine - Picea pungens

Mountain Pine - Pinus mugo

and brambles/rambling roses.

We make up loads each year to sell for a cause,

when you make the base, before you stuff with moss add thick wire loops twisted round at least three points, for attaching to the door, hang a long wire between the three points well twisted in. wire in little bells to wreath.

then as you make up each of the little bunches, which you then add to to the wreath, you make sure each of the bunches has several of the above foliage as well as ivy and the usual, and included in each individual bunch, you the add each bunch to the wreath, and wire on,

wear decent gloves.

wire onto door.

No one will bother, it hurts too much to hold on and tug hard enough.

and prickly foliage looks great.

Lots of the above are planted for security hedging, it's everywhere, if you ask nicely people are always happy to donate some trimming for a good cause.

I have that wreath. I love it! I would be devastated if it went missing. Took me years to persuade DH to get one but found a hanging hook in Lakeland so it wouldn't damage the door. You are SOOOO NBU!

MrsLouisTheroux · 17/12/2013 14:03

Yes, use florists wire to attach it to door knocker.
Wrap it round and round the door knocker and wreath so that it can't be taken unless they are prepared to cut through with pliers!

Vikki88 · 17/12/2013 14:04

Of course not, that's horrible. Xmas Sad

tattyteddy · 17/12/2013 18:49

Thanks everybody, it's just such an annoyance. I can't believe someone thinks it's ok to yank a wreath of someone's door. Essex's it is lovely isn't it? It used to make me smile when I came up to my front door. I think Quote that I will use your kind suggestions and make one with prickly bits. X

Is it this one??

Twoandtwomakeschaos · 17/12/2013 20:28

We have a medium sized Christmas tree outside with lights on. Paranoid it will go (have had stuff taken from the front before).

NoComet · 17/12/2013 20:37

YANBU
I'd be furious. Very cheap wreath, but it has battery lights wound into it. I couldn't change the batteries if I added holly.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 17/12/2013 20:38

Maybe it was the wind?

honeybeeridiculous · 17/12/2013 20:50

A few years back, in the summer, I had a 5 foot rubber plant standing in my front porch and someone stole it on the eve of Mother's Day Angry
It was 5 foot tall FFS!! I only hope the mum who received it is still enjoying it!

raisah · 17/12/2013 21:35

Can you thread a long piece of floristry wire to it & attach it to the mains?!! Not being serious but the thieves do deserve a shock if they go round stealing Christmas wreaths.

tattyteddy · 17/12/2013 21:35

CSI it is that one, it's a little bit glittery too very lovely. Originally I thought it may be the wind but I looked in all the gardens up the street to no avail. Also one of my neighbours had their wooden tree trunk raindeer go missing too. I think someone took a like to a few things on the street and tool them for their own. Xmas Angry

I know this is silly but I called 101 to report it going missing, they sent an officer around! Officer was lovely and said he could understand the disappointment as his wreath had gone missing a few years ago too! I shows him a pic and he said he'll keep an eye open for it as it is a little unusual, you never know I may be due a christmas miracle Grin
