to expect my landlord to fix my door?

I don't have much experience in renting so would appreciate opinions as to what is reasonable in this situation. I'm currently a student living in halls of residence. This morning when I woke up I found that the door knob on the outer side of the door to my room is broken. It just keeps spinning rather than opening the door iyswim. The one on the inside works so I can lock the door when I'm inside but I can't shut the door if I go out because I won't be able to get back in.

I reported this to the front desk of the building this morning but was told that as their are no maintenance people working at the weekend there's nothing that can be done until Monday. I'm not very happy about this because it means that if I leave my room either to go out somewhere or just to use the kitchen etc it will have to be left ajar and I will just have to hope it doesn't slip shut, and that nobody just walks in and nicks my stuff. I'm not sure what their answer would be if the door did shut when I was outside Angry

What is a reasonable time for this to be fixed? AIBU to think that I shouldn't be expected to leave my door open until Monday? Also, if anyone could tell me how I could fix it I'd be very grateful.

YANBU. I've worked as a Hall Warden in student halls before and we could get maintenance to do stuff at weekends, especially if it was an issue with people having problems accessing their accommodation (could take several hours for them to arrive though!) Have you a Hall Warden or Tutor who you could approach?

I would emphasise the security aspects, that there is a possibility you could get locked out and that your insurance will be invalid if anything is stolen whilst the door is ajar. You may be able to find a number for estates (which is the common name for the maintenance people) on the Uni website to contact them directly.

Thanks. I've managed to fix the door itself with the help of some Youtube videos and a screwdriver so it's ok for this weekend but I really feel like that's not exactly my job. The woman at the desk's attitude was just awful. She seemed to think it was entirely reasonable for me to risk either all my stuff getting nicked, with as you say invalid insurance, or to risk getting locked out all weekend Confused

Definitely not acceptable if your door couldn't be locked! If I remember rightly, halls of residence aren't necessarily cheap! But it's great that you've managed to fix it, at least for now.
