to insist DD picks different piano exam pieces to DS?

DS took his initial grade piano last year. DD came out of this week's lesson having chosen the same pieces to practice.

I have just recovered from six months of Driving Force. I cannot listen to the same song being bashed out on the piano for the next six months. It's been two days and I am already muttering derder derder derder derder dada, derder derder derder derder da da Hmm

Help Grin

There are 2 ways you could look at it.

I - be thankful it isn't a recorder exam

2 - Your DS could give her some extra tuition and get it sorted quickly.

I feel your pain though :)

I'd be thankful it's not a violin !!

VesuviusPoovius · 13/12/2013 16:53

I'm not getting off scot-free on the recorder or violin front. DD2 plays those Sad

Yet another thing no one ever warns you about having DC.

Ahem, ahem. The recorder is a fantastic instrument, but badly maligned. I know some superb recorder players, from about the age of 8 up to university/music college level.

As a teacher, I would have suggested that your daughter learns different pieces, simply so that results cannot be so easily compared if one does significantly better than the other.

Jesuisfatiguee · 13/12/2013 17:55

lol I feel your pain at Driving Force, its terrible. Did they also choose Sour Lemons or Kindergarten Blues?? My ears....

snowed · 13/12/2013 18:36

Buy a keyboard with headphones?

zeno · 13/12/2013 21:15

And this is why I love our digital piano. Volume control and headphones as well. Bliss for the whole household.

MadeOfStarDust · 13/12/2013 21:21

yep - digital piano here too - but still have to listen to "help".... but don't undervalue the fact that their sibling has already done it... they can be a great source of encouragement..

Golddigger · 13/12/2013 21:24

Oh dear. Poor you. I feel your pain. Cant think of a way round it I'm afraid. Somewhat, been there, done that.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/12/2013 21:25

Hahahaha, as a piano teacher (part time, thankfully!) I can sympathise. Driving Force is perhaps the easiest one in the Initial Grade book, hence its popularity. I have a few pupils doing Grade 1 right now. Those pieces are only slightly less annoying Grin

VesuviusPoovius · 13/12/2013 21:26

Kindergarten Blues. Luckily she hasn't got past Driving force (derder derder derder derder dardar) and April Showers yet.

Middleage good idea re not comparing. And feel free to take my 6 yo recorder player Grin I'll throw in the violin as well.
