I posted a few weeks ago. I saw an ad for her christmas album and thought 'jesus. Give up with bland versions of nice songs' (and stop giving my tone deaf mother something to wail along to)

So i got flamed. I knew NOTHING about her. Hadn't even seen her original x factor audition (or BGT?) i don't watch much telly.

I'm watching the documentary about her. And yes i see now that iwbu.

Absolutely agree Elk

BitOfFunWithSanta · 13/12/2013 17:37

I see what you mean, Elk. But if what you had said was "I wish that Dostoyevsky would just pack it in, I can't bear his stuff", then you found out his backstory, you would be quite justified to moderate your opinion and say "I admire his guts in achieving the acclaim his has, despite difficult circumstances, but his novels will never be my cup of tea and I think others write similar stuff which is, in my opinion, of higher quality".

That's fair enough, I think.

Sparklymommy · 13/12/2013 17:58

The clip of SuBo singing have yourself a merry Christmas has reminded me of another reason I don't think she can cope with her fame. She doesn't open her mouth (anyone with even the slightest knowledge of singing knows that you need to open your mouth!)

Also se looks stiff and uncomfortable and often forgets the lyrics she is meant to be singing. As the poster who posted that particular clip points out, for am dram shows the chances are she wouldn't last long and would be used only in the chorus.

pigletmania · 13/12/2013 19:13

Well as I pointed out she has disabilities that make it difficult for her, and she is out of her comfort zone with live performances. But a lot of people like her, like they lie people like Aled Jones, and Harry , there is a market out there.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 13/12/2013 19:36

People may like her music but there's always a market for a bit of mawkishness. The various talent shows at the moment all seem to set one contestant off against another, not just on their performing abilities, but a sort of competitive race to the bottom as to who has the worst background, speech impediment, visual impairment etc. When the polls are flagging, they wheel out a good luck message from the poorly nanna and.... ahhhh, bless.... the contestant is back at the top.

bochead · 13/12/2013 21:49

She doesn't offend me.

Miley Cyrus and some of the other "bog names" on the other hand . . . . .

roundtable · 13/12/2013 22:10

I equate her to painting by numbers. She knows the tune, can sing the tune but it's rigid. It's just not there for me.

However, I'm glad she proved the piss takers wrong. Singing should bring joy to the person doing it. I don't think it really matters what I think of her. I hope she sings her heart out and loves every minute of it.

It's like dancing, I hate it when people take the piss out of people dancing. It's an expression. We should all be allowed to flail about and sing our hearts out without fear. If people want to buy what we do, it's a bonus!

pigletmania · 13/12/2013 22:45

Here here round, I want an applause emocion on here

pigletmania · 13/12/2013 22:47

It's a free world, if she wants to sing publically it's upto her, and bonus if people pay her for it, which tey are despite those on here who are slating her and her voice, jealous much!

saintmerryweather · 13/12/2013 23:44

oh here we go, why is it that whenever people express an opinion about a person, someone always pops up with 'i dont agree with your opinion, therefore you're just jealous'

HoHolepew · 14/12/2013 00:20

I watched the audition on youtube when there was all the media attention about it. Are we really supposed to believe SC hadn't heard her sing before?

His acting in the clip was atrocious.

I haven't heard much by her but I love her version of Wild Horses.

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 14/12/2013 00:23

I liked your first thread better Grin

ComposHat · 14/12/2013 00:30

OP you were right first time. Her music is mince. The kind of pap aimed at Nans people who buy one CD a year and find Daniel O' Donnell a bit edgy.

The fact she has Aspergers and had a rough upbringing doesn't suddenly make it any better. We should separate the art from the artist's backstory. (Elk put it so much more eloquently)

'Songs in the Key of Life' isn't amazing because Stevie Wonder is blind. It is amazing because he is a genius who just happened to be born blind. It isn't deserving of any more praise, simply because its creator is blind.
