I also need your help and advice, too.
In my mind mental well being is still a taboo subject for many and perhaps in my anxiety am finding it hard to cope.
I am on anti dps, but need further help to banish bad thoughts and decreasing self esteem.
Who can I talk to and what further help can I get?
Do I ask my doc?
tyia! x

You go to your GP, and ask to be put on the waigting list to see the counsellor at the surgery. Or alternatively, to be referred to the Community Mental Health Team. Do you have children? You could chat to your health visitor. If one person isn't sympathetic, try another. don't give up xx

MysticMugBug · 11/12/2013 23:59

Thank you so, so much (teary smile).
see, I don't have a clue where I can
get help from.
having said that, I did contact Mind
by e-mail, they are in the process
of helping me.
No children yet
thanks again x

I would also suggest seeing your GP and asking for a referral for counselling. Mind are excellent though, I'm sure they can help you.

Hope you get the support you need

Hi there op, second the advice to try mind think the local one here does free counselling waiting list about eight weeks in meantime if you are on ads ( I hope they are helping - a lot of them have a preverse way of making you feel worse before you feel better) perhaps you could online and try moodgym? Hugs

Callani · 12/12/2013 10:30

Hi OP, definitely go to your GP about this, and be firm about what you want. Some GPs still seem to think that "try smiling more" is good advice (!!!) so don't feel bad about asking to see another doctor if the first one isn't as helpful as you want.

Dawndonnaagain · 12/12/2013 11:39

How long have you been on the antidepressants? They may not have had time to work properly, you may not be on a theraputic dose, or you may need to change them.

alwaysregretposting · 12/12/2013 12:57

Or you can self-refer to counselling if you don't want to see your GP (if it's available in your area )

I hear you are in a very difficult place OP and it sounds hard.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can to access help.

Other people I know have also found exercise, walks in rural/country environments and a plant-based (with maybe a bit of pizza and meat here and there!) helpful. Do you have a friend network? If not, then have you sought support from the boards specific to mental health here on Mumsnet? Your issue is not mine, but I've been greatly cheered and have had some awesome support from the TTC boards.

Do you know what triggers your depression

thenightsky · 14/12/2013 00:00

Try looking for this service in your area.

Because I have never met/heard of anyone with an anxiety disorder, I am worried the doctor's won't be accustomed to my disorder (see, worrying again)!
I have been on anti dps for 2 years.
Thanks for your help everyone x

Would the CAB be able to direct you to some support groups?

Ask you doctor, I'm sure they will only be too glad to help you and find out more. You've got nothing to loose.

MajesticWhine · 15/12/2013 20:37

Anxiety disorders are really very common. I completely agree to ask your GP for a referral. There is also some self help available, if you have the time for it. The "overcoming" series is good for example this book about low self esteem and this one about anxiety in general.
Often the action we take to cope with anxiety actually makes it worse. For example trying to banish bad thoughts could make you notice those bad thoughts even more, rather than ignoring them.
