to think that if you order via Amazon, then the company should deliver what you ordered?

I ordered an HP printer cartridge via Amazon. The cartridge which arrived was "HP compatible" ie not a genuine HP cartridge. I complained and requested an HP cartridge, as per the order

To be fair, the supplier replied to my complaint quickly and offered a 30% discount. I declined this offer, whereupon they refunded my money and said they wouldn't uplift the cartridge they delivered and I can keep it.

So, I've ended up with a free cartridge and they did reply quickly. On the other hand, they're still advertising HP cartridges on their website, which makes me suspect that they're deliberately sending out "HP compatible" cartridges and hoping people won't notice / complain. That makes me cross. Also, our contract was for delivery of a genuine HP cartridge at a certain price and I think it's reasonable to think they should have honoured that

So, MN Jury, do I let it go, or report to Trading Standards?

How much was it? As in would you have expected a genuine thing for the price? Or was it really cheap making it unlikely?

bundaberg · 10/12/2013 22:31

can you link to the item?

Genuine HP usually costs about £50

Compatible costs about £10

I paid £35. I thought it seemed a good deal, but not too good to be true

I have my suspicions that there is a small, but increasing, amount of stuff on Amazon Marketplace that is not quite as described.

I was looking for sheepskin boots for DD last year - and got very worried about some of the items that looked like a bargain.

Can you report it direct to Amazon?

Mouldypineapple · 10/12/2013 22:36

For £35 I'd be expecting the real thing too! Yes reporting it to Amazon could be a good first step.

justmyview · 10/12/2013 22:45

This is what I ordered. Disclaimer - I did not place my own order via Viking

I did report it to Amazon yesterday. I suspect that's what led to the prompt refund. I suspect Amazon will regard that as the end of the matter, but I'm not quite ready to let it go

DH thinks I should report to Trading Standards, but I'm not sure if they'll be interested, given that I have received a full refund

You can report them to amazon OP, and leave feedback for people to look at.

Link has gone. Your refund has nothing to do with it. If they are claiming it is genuine but it isn't, Trading Standards.
