would you complain to the teacher?

a friend got her little boy home from school whom told her how they swapped Christmas cards over and how he'd sent cards too two girls at his school with kisses in, to which the teacher saw and said to him "Oh look at you, you pervert!" He said everyone laughed and it was a joke but Why would a teacher feel the need to call a child a pervert?! A flirt maybe but nowhere near a pervert?! He's in primary school

I said to complain to the teacher and the head but she thinks it's nothing..

I don't pervert is an acceptable word to use around young children at all and I think the teacher must be very strange to use the word at a child I'd complain.

CheckedPjs · 10/12/2013 21:31

I'm just thinking of how the school would quickly turn around and complain when other pupils started calling others/teachers/parents perverts because they now think it's acceptable IYSWIM

How old is the little boy??

How does he even know what the word 'pervert' means?? Mind you, if you say that everyone laughed it implies all the children knew what a pervert was??! That's a bit worrying actually. My Primary School age niece and nephew wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about if I used that word.

Could he have misheard, maybe the teacher did say flirt??

Greensleeves · 10/12/2013 21:32

In this instance if I was sure my child hadn't known the word before, I would go directly to the Head, not the teacher. It raises a red flag for me that a teacher would say something like that to a child, or even think it.

ToucanBlack · 10/12/2013 21:37

Go to the Head, definitely! (I say this as a primary school teacher myself)

It may be that the wrong word just 'fell' out of her mouth, but that is in no way appropriate and she needs telling.

CheckedPjs · 10/12/2013 21:37

About 6/7

He doesn't know what the word pervert means, I think the teacher laughed so they all did IFYGWIM? He's sure she didn't say flirt and that is quite a difference i think he could tell. It's worrying.

I adviced the head, I just can't seem to think why she'd say it :S

I'm a primary teacher too btw and I say go to the Head

Canthaveitall · 10/12/2013 21:40

I would complain but I would check my facts first. I would probably question my child a bit more and then see the teacher. Dependent on my experience with them and what they said I would see the head. Its not an acceptable thing to say but could well of been a slip of the tongue.

junkfoodaddict · 10/12/2013 21:41

OMG! I am a Primary School teacher and I would NEVER, EVER dream of calling a child a pervert, not even an adult and certainly not in jest. It is a word that has no place in humour. I would certainly speak to the Head and insist that the teacher is spoken to to find out his/her version of events and action taken if and where necessary.
Sorry, but if true, THAT is extremely serious. It is making light of a very distressing act.

fedup21 · 10/12/2013 21:45

I would be very surprised if the teacher used that word. I would investigate.

CheckedPjs · 10/12/2013 21:48

I think she's going to speak to the head, get her DS to tell her what happened and get the teacher to tell their side.

I'm hoping they meant flirt and the wrong word came out and before she knew it they were all laughing :/

That is an extremely unlikely thing to have happened. I would suspect (and hope) he has miss heard. If it was my child I would go and speak to the teacher and see what they have to say.
However it's not your child so not a lot you can do...

smartiepants79

I know he's not my child lol However I was just trying to gage if my advice was right..

I know if it was my son, I'd want to speak to the teacher/head because I don't mention perverts etc so he wouldn't of got it from me.

Are you sure that's what she said?

Flossyfloof · 10/12/2013 23:12

Pervert is quite an unusual word. I would suspect that he misheard. If the teacher did say it I would think that it was a mistake and they just used the wrong word. It happens. Can't say I would be overly bothered and certainly not if it wasn't my child. In fact it is such a non-issue I can't believe I am responding.
