I can't bring myself to like her

I have been giving a younger woman a lift into work every morning since June. She's 12 years younger than me at 20, and I'd say quite immature for her age. I have a DS who I pick up so I don't give her a lift home.
I find her so hard work, I am civil but I think she's rude, really full of herself and had this weird air of entitlement about her - I can't quite put my finger on it.
She has pissed off several people at work with this attitude also.
Since Sept, I think she's taken the piss a bit - she's texted me 5 mins before I'm due to collect her to say she doesn't need a lift, not bothered to text me at all to say I'm not needed when she's been off sick and one day text me just before I was due to pick her up to say she's gone into work early - how?!
I'm finding the whole thing quite stressful and my colleague suggested giving her notice to terminating my lifts. Would this B U?
I just can't bring myself to like her - this doesn't make me want to stop, it's the attitude and the messing me about really. WIBU to say I can't take her anymore from a certain point?

Just tell her, things have changed, you will no longer be able to give her a lift and walk away.
You don't have to explain why. You owe her nothing.

realblueprint · 10/12/2013 21:43

I have a similar situation, though I don't mind doing it as I do quite like the colleague and it really isn't out of my way.

But the 'entitled' bit resonates - mine never says thank you, and also does weird things like when I say "am I giving you a lift tomorrow?" saying something like "oh ok, if you want" as if SHE'S doing me a favour by letting me pick her up? Confused

mrsjay · 11/12/2013 10:09

I agree you dont need to give her a story just things have changed you wont be picking her up anymore

Delurkedforthis · 11/12/2013 10:30

Oh you so have my sympathy, and it's rotten when your day gets off to a shit start....

but on a lighter note, she really does not sound beyond redemption: the fact that she gave you a personal pressie and a lttle something for your DS shows that there is a kernel of something there and is actually a bit aaaawwwwwww! She will grow up into a nice woman I am sure
absolutely no call for you to give her a teeth itching lift whilst that's happening though

revivingshower · 11/12/2013 10:41

I would give her a story as you have to work with her and although she annoys you as someone said she might just be a bit immature. Something non arguable with though as she sounds the type to argue she doesn't mind going in a bit early or whatever.

MistressDeeCee · 11/12/2013 10:43

I'd just tell her I can't offer a lift anymore. Make up an excuse if you want. Maybe I'm BU but I don't see the need to even care about this woman. She sounds obnoxious & ungrateful. She's not your daughter or your sister, so just tell her bye-bye.

dustarr73 · 11/12/2013 11:50

The thing is if you give her a reason as why you cant do it,she might find a solution.
Just say to her after Christmas you cant give lifts anymore you dont owe her an explanation. Also say it to the person who walked you in it to not be offering your services wihtout checking with you first.

alemci · 11/12/2013 12:16

also it would be nice if she offered you petrol money. You could just not pick her up on the first day and see what happens. Wait to see first if she contacts you about lifts, it sounds like she has been messing you about and not appreciating your help.

AuntieBrenda · 10/01/2014 21:44

Bit of an update of anyone's interested...
I am no longer giving lifts. I have told her that my circumstances have changed. I need to distance myself from this girl as I found she was telling staff I had said x,y,z during journeys when I have in fact said nothing of the sort!
She has been beyond incompetent and very unpleasant during the short week we've been back and I'm glad I have no kore to do with her. I drove to work today and felt fine instead of arriving like a ball of stress!
Thanks to all for the advice - much appreciated x

Go, AuntieBrenda! You clearly made the right decision.

LittleThorinOakenshield · 10/01/2014 21:46

I've worked with someone like this.

You've done the right thing! In fact you have been a saint so far.

Electryone · 10/01/2014 21:47

Good for you!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 10/01/2014 21:49

I love an update, good for you OP.

Pancakeflipper · 10/01/2014 21:51

Oooh well done ( I read and ran last time and didn't spot the thread again). She is what my grandma would call a right little madam.

At least all of you have the measure of her.

tudorqueen · 10/01/2014 21:53

Well done! Glad you are less stressed. She does sound terribly young - can only hope that one day, when she's a bit older she looks back on some of the things she said and has an OMG moment!!

whois · 10/01/2014 21:54

Yeah no need to give a reason just say "afraid I am not going to be able to give you a lift in the mornign any more, as of [insert date 1 or 2 weeks in future]. Hope you manage to sort out alternative arangments."

If pushed for a reason just say it has started to be an inconvenience and you need more flexability.

whois · 10/01/2014 21:55

How did I miss the update???

anyway WELL DONE OP! :-)

AuntieBrenda · 10/01/2014 21:57

Well done you.
It was a bit off of your colleague to ask you in her presence, didn't give you a lot of choice.

PedlarsSpanner · 10/01/2014 22:08

oh well done Brenda

ugh at her flights of fancy!
