AIBU to make my son wear a crash helmet...

on his scooter? He is 5 by the way.
He always wears one when he goes on his bike obviously but I also make him wear it when he is on his scooter. I have noticed other children don't wear helmets when on scooters. My ds moans at me constantly to let him stop wearing it, as he doesn't want to be different from the other kids.
How come other parents don't bother with helmets...? I know most do when their kids are on bikes but not scooters?

Yes to helmet here. DS (5) went over his handlebar when he hit a branch hidden under some leaves. Huge bruise but the helmet saved the day.

Not steep hills no. But we do go down a road which is on an incline. He is very steady on his scooter and has to stop at every lamppost and wait for me. He scoots on ahead and it is a route we have done everyday for nearly two years. He stops for pedestrians. We live in a quiet area with a verge between the pavement and road.

No I don't for scooters, bikes skate boards and rollar blades yes but not scooters. Over the top imho.

Artandco that's good, I think children should really have protection or safety gear tbh, and seeing little ones careering along - or even pootling along- knowing how much harm being thrown from a scooter could do is worrying.

We also have a no helmet = no scooting/ cycling rule. We love in a village where they have to scoot on some small roads to get to the pavements unfortunately. They also run, trip over and climb (and fall out of) trees without helmets.

Just to add, DD (2) sometimes wears her helmet in the pushchair. Her choice. Not sure what that says about my driving...

In our house it is no helmet, no scooter. DS v happily complies...
