Just ordered some gifts from Argos to be delivered today, i chose today's date but despite this i recieved a text from Argos on Saturday saying my parcel would be sent then between 12-9pm!
All well and good as dh was in anyhow.
What i didn't realise is that they use flipping yodel.

After waiting all day and all evening, according to tracking info this parcel had been sent to the lady across from meConfused although dh had been in all day.

Anyway lady over from us was out out all day the next day so yesterday i sent dh over for this parcel only to find out they don't have it, and to make matters worse we never actually had a note from yodel eitherConfused

So i gets on the phone to Argos and apparently they are investigating it, i just want my bloody money back and i'm angry that Yodel are such arses.

They did similar last year when my sister ordered from Asda Direct at Christmas, Yodel said we were out & had left a note (they hadn't) and our items never arrived although kindly Asda sent replicas out which did eventually arrive a week later!

To make matters worse all of Yodels phonelines are automated so it's all robotic.
Aibu to be fed up with Yodel and it's shitty services and it would be nice if online stores stated they used these twits before checkout as i wouldn't bother buying from them!!

So glad you started this thread OP! Just bheen on Amazon to check thge progress of a crossword book I'd ordered for my Mum's husband - apparently Yodel delivered it on Friday. Apparently I signed for it. Apparently I don't know how to spell my own (extremely common) surname. Useless idiots.

Thank fuck Amazon's excellent customer service comes to the rescue again - profuse apologies and another one being sent out immediately. Why do they use them? It must cost them a fortune!

StephenKatzCrackerHat · 10/12/2013 13:13

Mind, judging by those typos it's entirely possible I could spell my surname incorrectly Grin

Onelittlebugbear · 10/12/2013 13:48

My parcel has been returned to the depot three times so far - originally it said carrier delay and now it says address query. I'm fairly sure I will never see it and will have to get in touch with the sender to complain.

JustMeh · 10/12/2013 14:00

I have a 150.00 order supposed to be delivered yesterday. Still sitting around in a depot somewhere ;(.

losersaywhat · 10/12/2013 14:02

I avoided anywhere that used Yodel too until the recently. I was pissed off with them lying about parcel s being delivered which weren't. Now the guy across the road delivers for Yodel in our area so I dont need to wait in, he justs keeps the parcel and brings it across at the end of his run :-)

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 14:06

YANBU. Yodel are utterly shit. Hermes are also truly awful. We've had ridiculous things happen to our parcels with both companies - delivering to an address miles down the road, delivering to a different village, delivering to a neighbour but not telling us which one, chucking parcels into the garden in the rain etc.

But every time this has happened I've gone straight to whoever I bought the parcel from (Amazon, Boden, John Lewis etc.) and they've sorted it straight away. I don't arse around trying to contact the couriers.

CaptainTripps · 10/12/2013 15:08

But I do wonder what these big companies think of their own courier methods and whether they feel a pressure from customers to drop Yodel, Hermes and other useless couriers.

It's no good their using these couriers to keep costs down if it means they will lose valued customers due to it.

I get the feeling that their inaction to change couriers means they don't give a flying four x.

Like others have said on here, I don't use companies which use Yodel. There must be many, many more like me. And these companies are losing money. I always check the courier first.

manticlimactic · 10/12/2013 15:32

I ordered a dementia clock for my mum and it was delivered by Yodel. The sellotape had been cut so someone had obviously seen the size of the box thinking it was an iPad or something. Bet they were disappointed Grin

I had an interview at my works Head Office for customer service and they were telling me about their new wine delivery service. I asked how it was going and they said it's going ok but for the masses of complaints about deliveries. I made an off the cuff comment 'Gawd, I hope you don't use Yodel, or that job would be a nightmare'. The guys face said it all. Thankfully I got a job away from the phones so won't have people ranting at me!

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 15:57

When I complained to Boden that Hermes was crap, they offered to put me on a Royal Mail-only list. Which was nice. I assume they've had a lot of problems with couriers, begging the question...why keep using them? If you Google 'Amazon Yodel' loads of links come up about people complaining including whole articles in big newspapers. So why?!!?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 10/12/2013 16:07

Are Amazon Prime deliveries made by someone else because the many many I've had over the last month and a half have been faultless.

Not so UPS [seethe]

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 16:13

I wonder if Amazon only use Yodel in certain areas? The problems we had with Amazon Yodel deliveries were all over a year ago. More recently, all our many Amazon deliveries have been faultless too and mostly delivered by Royal Mail I think (and we don't use Amazon Prime). Maybe the Yodel couriers in our area were just too awful and Amazon have given up on them. There was one Yodel woman who would only deliver to us between 11 and half 11 on a Wednesday, because that's when she was in our area Hmm And the parcels always stank of smoke.

pumpkinsweetie · 10/12/2013 16:17

I have ordered from Amazon alot and my parcels from them have always come from Royal Mail.
I think only certain areas that amazon operate use Yodel.

But this weekend has really made me think twice about ordering online as many of these stores refuse to listen to their customers. Littlewoods, Asda Direct, Argos being the ones out of many that still continue to use Yodel despite numerous parcels going missing and so many upset customers.

Yodel may be cheaper, but are they so cheap that these stores can afford to "lose" yodel to steal most of their stock?

Mine seem to have been delivered by Amazon. I have a blue "whilst you were out" card telling me the parcel is on the porch and it's only got Amazon's name on it. Other deliveries have come in a plain white van.

Sparklymommy · 10/12/2013 17:41

I had a delivery from yodel the other week and I was worried when I saw they were delivering but it arrived no problems. As a rule I try to avoid them like the plague!

chipsandpeas · 10/12/2013 18:02

amazon also use hermes and DPD as well

CrohnicallySick · 10/12/2013 18:02

To be fair though, it's not just Yodel.

I was on my way out on Saturday when I noticed a 'sorry you were out' card on the mat from Royal Mail. I checked the time and it was 15 minutes prior, when I was definitely in!

I had a Hermes driver come to collect a parcel- it was an eBay collection only sale and they sent a courier round to collect it. He arrived in a tiny little hatchback (like a pre 2000 peugeot 106 or similar) that was full to the brim with little parcels. He was rude to me when he saw the size of the parcel he was collecting- it was a stage 1 car seat! I said it wasn't my problem if it wouldn't fit, he was being paid to collect it and presumably the person paid according to the size of the item, and shut the door (and then had a right laugh looking through the window watching him try to fit it in his car, it was like a 3d game of Tetris!)

I once had a missed parcel from DPD (I think it was them), and had the option to go on a website to arrange collection from the depot, or they would attempt delivery the next day. I duly went on the website and entered my details. As I was situated between 2 main depots, I had the choice of which one I wanted to collect from. I also had to enter an approximate time. The problem was, I couldn't find the address for either of the depots! So not only didn't know which one i wanted to collect from, I had no idea of the time I could get there for. Of course, the customer services was automated and couldn't answer my question. In the end I picked a depot at random and once I had picked it let me see the address- what a weird system!

Glittertwins · 10/12/2013 18:17

I must have got very lucky with a John Lewis delivery that came via Yodel. Despite DH claiming not to have heard the doorbell, the driver dropped it off next door and left a note.

SandyDilbert · 10/12/2013 18:18

Crohnically - you shouldn't let a buyer arrange their own courier. You have no tracking proving delivery and if item is lots or damaged you cannot claim with the courier as you don't have the contract with them. You risk losing the item and buyer clawing back their money from paypal. Only ever arrange a courier yourself. Or let them pay cash or bank transfer - then you are safe.

CrohnicallySick · 10/12/2013 20:28

Really sandy? When they asked if they could send a courier I said yes, but that it would be at their own risk and once collected I would accept no liability. I'm pretty sure I got some proof of collection from the courier, so surely seeing as the item was collection only I had proof that I had done my bit? How can a buyer claim they never received it when as far as eBay was concerned it was collection only? (The exception being if someone was uncontactable to arrange collection, which I clearly wasn't and had ebay messages/courier note to prove it).

It's a moot point now anyway- after that experience I never let them arrange courier collection- it wasn't just the rudeness, it's the way you can't arrange a time to suit you, rather the courier states when they'll be there (and then is late).

SandyDilbert · 10/12/2013 20:46

you have to accept liability if you take paypal - it is your responsibility as the seller to get the item to the buyer. If the buyer paid by paypal they just file not received, you have no online proof of delivery, buyer gets refunded. As simple as that. No exceptions whatsoever. Saying it is at their risk is worthless, just like sellers who write on their auctions they take no responsibility for lost items or don't accept returns.

CrohnicallySick · 11/12/2013 07:22

Another example of where eBay/paypal is biased towards the buyer then. I know not to accept paypal on collection items, but you can't actually turn paypal off as an option, and even if you specify cash on collection, some numpty will pay paypal anyway. What should you do in that situation? Refund the paypal and insist on cash?

CrohnicallySick · 11/12/2013 07:24

Is it just that eBay has gotten too big for it's boots, and hasn't the time/resources/intelligence to look into individual cases, so applies blanket rules?

CrohnicallySick · 11/12/2013 07:24

Grr autocorrect! Its!

SandyDilbert · 11/12/2013 08:05

yes you refund and ask them to bring cash, and if they don't you send them a cancellation request to get your fvf refunded.

the rule has always been this way with ebay - nothing has changed.

Jengnr · 11/12/2013 08:19

Twitter usually works in these matter as it's public.

The drivers are still cunts though. Although my experience is from DPD not Yodel.
