AIBU to ask for a partial refund?

We had an event on Friday evening, catered by the venue. At the end of the event there was lots of food left over (they took it out of the marquee) so we asked if we could keep it. They said they had binned it all - we were not best pleased but accepted it.

A friend works there and said today that it's all in the fridge!! I clarified that was definitely ours but she said it was as its dated as being opened Friday night and it's not stuff they usually serve. I know I can't ring them and say this as friend could lose her job but I am so cross about it.

Any tips on asking for a partial refund or what to best put in the email?

I am not good with confrontation so all help appreciated!

I think the reason they don't let you take the food is in case of food poisoning, after all the food has been left out for several hours and if you failed to follow food hygiene at home (eg reheated the food but didn't heat it enough to kill any germs) you could have become ill and blamed the venue.

Whereas employees will presumably have food hygiene certificates and know what they are doing in that respect, also there will be an element of 'eat at your own risk', if an employee was ill from eating the food they would probably not be able to hold the venue liable as they shouldn't have been eating it iyswim.

If you wanted to be able to take the food home, you should have clarified that at the time you booked, and put something into the contract.

Oh, in other words YABU as the venue fulfilled their side of the contract, that is they catered the event.

It wasn't things that needed to be heated!

Sounds like they're being paid twice/getting two usages for the same food, but not sure how you can prove it. If you never want to use the venue again, you could threaten to post an online review citing this?

Not sure yo can ask for a refund as food was provided in quantities you specified and they would have paid for it all, but you could go and ask for it!

Friend of mine had to cancel a party a week before it was due and venue clAimed they had already bought all the food so no refund. Her mum went round and demanded it all and stored it n her massive chest freezer. Anyone who went round for months after got a BBQ meat pack and tub of coleslaw to take home!
