Dh and I bought his db a kindle for his birthday in jan 12. Within a couple of months the kindle apparently stopped working. My dbil lives in the USA whilst we are in the UK. So, we asked him to send it back and we would take it back. That was in March. No sign from that day on. Dbil is quite possibly the most irresponsible person in the entire world, always has been. Now dfil has been to visit and returned this week with the kindle with the request that we take it back. AIBU to say get stuffed?? I have no idea where the receipt is so I think I haven't got a leg to stand on. Advice please! Xmas Angry

It's registered on your amazon account though?

I've just called them to return one I bought for Christmas last year as it's stopped being able to charge

Nope, bought from tescos. Why did I think this would not end badly!!

You can return items without a receipt. Kindles haven't come down in price so there should be no issue of accepting a lower value for it.

E-mail Tesco and report it as faulty; they will be able to advise you and replace/refund as necessary.

Then, keep it yourself!

LaurieFairyCake, I bought hubby one in May from Amazon, which has stopped charging, can I still send it back then?

notanotherusername1 · 09/12/2013 17:57

I would be thinking the same after all this time, it is nearly a year afterall.

Send fil into Tesco with it and see how far he gets.

I was wondering if through the magic of tesco club card I would be able to track some kind of proof of sale?

You could call them, your post inspired me to call about my own non charging Kindle. It was a gift from my mother more than a year ago so I don't have a receipt and I doubt she does any more.

They were very helpful and got it working again.

Really though your brother in law should call, there is a certain point when you should stop having to be responsible for a gift. Tell him to call himself.

Ring Amazon. They are FAR more use than sodding Tesco! If it is under a year old, Amazon will probably just replace it. Ideally, I would imagine that the person who has the amazon account should contact them.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 09/12/2013 18:09

They're not supposed to be 'disposable' and are still supposed to work after a year. I'd be absolutely shocked if you didn't get a refund/repair. Tesco can track your order, it will be on their system.

I am more hopeful now so thanks for that. Still feel like smashing it over his head though Xmas Grin

Yanbu its nearly two years ago, he obviously didn't care, too much so I wouldn't be stressing myself over it. Confused as to why op would contact Amazon if it were bought in Tesco?

caketinrosie · 09/12/2013 19:12

I presume amazon will have an idea how to fix whatever problem it has? I should have said jan 13 not 12, I still think it's 1980 some weeks, my apologies! I will give it a go and let you know Smile

I bought my kindle from tesco, not direct just picked it up in the store but when I had an issue with charging I spoke to amazon they twice sent me a new fast charger thing and then they sent a new cable. They said that if the problem didn't resolve they would send me a new kindle.
