Older relatives and friends of our parents like to get a photo of the kids. However I think some people think it's poncy.

Laurie That would be excellent!

Idespair · 10/12/2013 09:29

Fine as long as you consider who you're sending it to.
Granny=yes
Young party colleague with no dc=no

RightsaidFreud · 10/12/2013 09:37

Agree with what others have said, fine for grandparents, but not for others. Can i just ask, what the hell is a round robin?? I'm 26 and have yet to have receive one, what is it?? I'm assuming from this thread they aren't popular!

sandfrog · 10/12/2013 10:52

RightsaidFreud a "round robin" is one of those Christmas "newsletters" which some people enclose with their cards. I don't like them because they're often smug and impersonal.

4athomeand1cooking · 10/12/2013 11:04

My friend does these picture cards - of her dog complete with Santa hat on!!!!! Hmm she also has children but they never feature!

sandfrog · 10/12/2013 11:06

Maybe there should be a separate festival for people to send photos to each other... or is that basically Facebook?

SomethingOnce · 10/12/2013 14:58

RsF, it is one of the great seasonal joys! Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a juicy round robin to have a laugh at.

It's probably a dying art these days, as social media fulfils much the same function, but I do have a relative under 30 who has been sending one for a few years now, so all is not lost.

sandfrog · 10/12/2013 16:31

"social media fulfils much the same function"

And that's why I don't use FB - it's just a giant constant round robin! Grin

Mivery · 17/12/2013 18:22

I send them out. I love receiving them so I would hope other people do too! I especially love the funny ones. I usually gather a few photos of the kids (some funny, some serious) from the past year and create a Christmas photo card from Shutterfly. I like to add a personal message such as wishing everyone a happy holiday.

My friends and family seem to like them :)

PartyFops · 17/12/2013 18:28

I think it depends on who you are sending your cards to. I live far away from all my relatives so they do not see DD from one year to the next,

Shes only 2.5 and we do the picture christmas cards and send to relatives. People close by who we see alot just get normal cards.

Canidae · 17/12/2013 20:28

I don't have DC but am happy to receive cards of friend's kids dressed up. It's a more personal than a robin card from a multipack.

Joysmum · 17/12/2013 20:32

I couldn't give a shot what anyone else thinks. I send what I like, if my friends and family are worth their salt they'll understand. I've never sent cards with pics of us on, but I have sent cards that I bought through DDs school of her own design.

I receive cards that are religious dispite friends knowing I'm not religious and celebrate the family as my celebration. Doesn't offend or bother me. It takes all sorts to make a world go round.

NotYoMomma · 17/12/2013 20:35

I love them and send them to family. I recieve a few too Wink Grin

some people are just miserable, just bin it after Christmas with the others, no need to take the piss etc

wishfulthinking1 · 17/12/2013 20:46

What a miserable bunch!

I only send cards to friends and family- and I expect them to be thrilled at a picture of my gorgeous boy. I love receiving them- and I love having them up on the wall. Far better than seem generic winter scene or a pic of Father Christmas stuck I'm a chimney.

They're my friends! My family! Of course they're bloody well interested! I'm genuinely surprised by the attitudes / thoughts here. It's Christmas! (And my son looks super cute as an elf!!)

thebody · 17/12/2013 20:46

oh dear, ALL if my family including GP would take the piss out if this and friends would piss themselves.

afraid your kids would end up with drawn in mustaches and black teeth.

sorry but it's true.

stopgap · 17/12/2013 20:48

Ha! This is a must in America. For the second year running, I have failed to order cards in advance, so people will have to make do with generic snowscapes.

Mumsyblouse · 17/12/2013 20:53

I love those montage ones with lots of different pictures of families just having fun together, how can you dislike pictures of your friends and their children? I agree posed ones are naff, but if they are natural snaps all put together with a cheery message, they are great!

I am not organized enough to do them myself.

SatinSandals · 17/12/2013 20:58

For grandparents, yes, but anyone else, no.

Marcelinewhyareyousomean · 17/12/2013 21:28

I absolutely LOVE them.

I keep them all and bring them out every year. I also keep ones with drawings and made by DC. Friends or family, I love them all.

I like them better than generic cards from packs which I can't even be arsed to put up.

I don't send them but I'm going to steal an idea and take a photo of ds playing with present received and we will make thank you cards.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 17/12/2013 21:34

I think it's nice for children as young as yours. I don't do photo cards but do sometimes send a photo inside the card to relatives.

nosoupforyou · 17/12/2013 21:35

I think it's a lovely idea. When i receive cards from people they are usually people who I like. I am interested in their lives and would love to have a cute picture of their kids on a card.

I think regular christmas cards are totally naff and pointless.
