Christmas play invite

So, it's my ds (6) school Christmas play on weds. He's a present in the chorus, they sing a couple of songs. I have 2 tickets - for me and dp but dp can't go now cos he has to work extra hours to make up for a hosp appt the following day.

My parents are dead and dp's aren't local There's no other family around. Options for spare ticket - invite a lovely old lady who we see at church who has been helping ds with his reading / pen grip (we go for tea etc) as she's an ex-primary teacher. Ds likes her a lot. Or, offer on the class fb page to see if anyone wants the ticket for a spare gran or something.

Dp thinks it's weird wanting to invite the old lady as she's not an actual gran / relative. What do you think?

It's a little hard to say without knowing the extent of the relationship between the old lady and your DS but I imagine most old ladies in that situation would be absolutely delighted to be invited! If she doesn't want to go she can always say no.

I think inviting the lady that has been investing her time in helping your ds and having you for tea would be a lovely thing to do.

Invite your friend, I'm sure she'll be delighted, but please stop calling her an old lady...........!

I think it's a lovely gesture to invite the lady that has been helping your family

If you put it on the class FB page it will turn into a bun fight

Pascha · 09/12/2013 13:39

Oh invite the old lady. What a nice thing to do.

Dilidali · 09/12/2013 13:40

Go for the honorary granny! :)

Scholes34 · 09/12/2013 13:41

Absolutely, invite her.

Another granny vote here

Brill - have sent her a text. She's not an old old lady and I would never refer to her or talk about her like that IRL - it was mumsnet shorthand, promise. I'll see if she politely declines!

I agree lovely idea . Make her day sounds like she enjoys your family company .

granny without a doubt. we always give ours to the lady who runs rainbows. she knows so many of the girls, loves going to the school but has no family ties there.

WaitMonkey · 09/12/2013 14:18

Hope she enjoys it. Smile

Aw, it was a good call. She replied starting "yippee, I am thrilled" and including the fact she would text later as was off to see an old lady (aged 99) at the hospital. Made me smile. Thank you all - very wise bunch. Grin
