Does anyone else feel like everyone's gone Christmas crazy ever so early this year?

DJ on the radio squeaking away this afternoon: "It's nearly here, it's nearly Christmas!!!"

Ummm, last time I looked it's more than two weeks away Hmm and I've still got lots of things to buy and do!

Since December 1 the radio have been playing Christmas songs nearly all day.

I love Christmas but surely it's not "nearly here" for at least another fortnight? Is it me or is everyone going mad earlier than usual?

OP posts:
farrowandbawlbauls · 07/12/2013 19:31

Not really. 2 weeks isn't long at all, most people have had their last payday before Christmas last week so will have started then.

scaevola · 07/12/2013 19:31

I get mildly annoyed that it seems to start earlier, but rarely keeps going for the proper Twelve Days.

DC are all knackered. - this term is just too long, so I wish it were a bit nearer!

specialsubject · 07/12/2013 19:36

thank goodness this crap doesn't happen about all other events.

and horrifying that people so strapped that payday really matters are buying sparkly tat.

tinkertaylor1 · 07/12/2013 19:38

I know people that put there tree up in December because they just couldn't wait ..........

tinkertaylor1 · 07/12/2013 19:39

^^ that should have been NOVEMBER

I swear ive only had one Wine

valiumredhead · 07/12/2013 19:58

It is nearly here.

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 07/12/2013 20:05

We've just put our tree up and I'm starting to get in the mood.

It does feel like everyone's going mad this year though. We got married Nov 2nd and as soon as we were back from a little holiday all I heard about was Christmas. Madness.

LaGuardia · 07/12/2013 20:51

Oh god. What's wrong with people looking forward to something nice? YABU.

LauraChant · 07/12/2013 20:55

Well we got our first card today and I am sure cards arrived much earlier in previous years. So I will controversially state Christmas is actually arriving later this year. Possibly because spring was so late. Grin

CaptainSweatPants · 07/12/2013 20:57

Bit aghast they just advertised Paul o Grady 's show about battersea dogs home which is going to be aired on Xmas day at 5.15pm! Are they really going to keep advertising it for the next 2.5 weeks??

Morloth · 07/12/2013 20:58

Christmas is nice.

But mostly we are lookibg forward to the school holidays. We have managed to wrangle of month off for all of us.

Bliss.

WooWooOwl · 07/12/2013 21:13

I think it feels like Christmas has come later this year! I think it's because we always put our tree up on the first Saturday in December, and this year we have had to wait a full week before the first Saturday.

octopusinasantasack · 07/12/2013 21:17

I blame the unseasonably warm weather. I was looking at photos from this time last year and my photos are all of country heavily covered in frost, this year it's blue skies and sunshine and warm enough to sit in the garden with my coffee.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 21:19

Two and a half weeks is into "nearly" territory, I think. I'd say "it's nearly my birthday" (or any other annual event) at that kind of notice.

MrsChristmasBungle · 07/12/2013 21:20

But it IS nearly here. 2 weeks, to me, is nearly here!

TalcAndTurnips · 07/12/2013 21:24

I have all my Easter eggs bought and wrapped and have concealed eggs in garden ready for hunt.

Hot cross buns glazed and on the baking tray.

LimitedEditionLady · 07/12/2013 22:41

Heeheehee i cant wait!

magimedi · 08/12/2013 00:03

I can't wait for 26/12/13.

Grinch that I am.

I am so fucked of with the whole thing starting earlier & earlier every year.

YANBU, OP.

LimitedEditionLady · 08/12/2013 20:50

Boooooo hissssssss panto bad guy style Xmas Grin

ThurlHoHoHow · 08/12/2013 20:55

I haven't bought a thing. Honestly. I haven't written any cards either. Oh, no, wait, I've bought one present.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 08/12/2013 20:56

Magi Xmas Shock

I can't put up a tree or anything I have 'people in' plastering walls and installing heating and crap - no room for trees or reindeer that don't want to be covered in plaster. My tree is normally up, fully laden and sparkling away by now

Come December I am happy to join in with Christmas - it's the stuff in the shops in AUGUST that does my head in!

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 08/12/2013 20:59

I haven't bought any presents yet but that's because I have been too busy sorting out the house for the multitude of tradesmen & have no idea what to get anyone I am getting a tad stressed about the lack of presents.

I can't find any nice cards this year - where have they all gone?? Or is that it, have they all been sold??

LimitedEditionLady · 08/12/2013 21:15

Weeeeeee wish you a merry christmas and a haaaappy neeeewwww yeaaarrrrrr!!

DrCoconut · 08/12/2013 21:36

For me it's still too early to start Christmas. Our tree is going up on 20th if we can be bothered after work, 21st if not. School and work will beboverbthen and its time to properly do Christmas. We did go to Santa today because we went with friends but other than that its not time. And why does Christmas all seem to be over on Boxing Day? Radio stations and music channels have very little if any Christmas music on. Surely many people are still celebrating due to work, separation etc. having patiently waited I want my full 12 days!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/12/2013 23:15

I had years as a child of my mum saying "I wish it was Boxing Day" "I wish I could go to sleep and it would be next week"
She never put decorations up after I was about 9yo (we did it or their wouldn't have been any) and she delegated cooking to anyone who stood near the cooker.
So it wasn't as though she was worked off her feet, she just couldn't be bothered (and made sure we all knew the extent of her couldn't-be-botheredness)

When I was a teenager (so we were all cooking/decorating/making cakes/ doing shopping) she sometimes stayed in bed the whole time Hmm

So.
I embrace the whole festive season.
My DC love it.
I love doing all the organising. Planning.
Sorting out trips. Shopping days. The food. The treats.

If someone tells me (Usually my patients at work) "I hate Christmas. It's too commercialised"

I say "Oh it's an expensive time/ a lonely time for many/ some people go a bit OTT"

Inside I'm screaming (silently)
"Hate? Don't say Hate. Some of us enjoy Christmas. Some of us work to make it nice. Anyone who doesn't just keep your opinions to yourself. Or find another like minded whingey git to whinge with"

But I smile, wanely and don't rant out loud.

One day, I'll combust Xmas Wink
