to not want scouts, school kids etc to pack my shopping for me

I always try and avoid the till points with fund raising bag packers at them but sometimes they all have them.

In Asda the other day there were 3 early teen girls standing at the end of the conveyor belt. I politely declined their offer of help but they then sort of leaned over the packing area, jostling each other and talking/giggling loudly. One seemed to be staring at me most of the time! Today in Sainsbury's it was the scouts - a couple of boys who looked about 10/11 who were being silly and pushing each other.

I don't want to risk them squashing stuff and I object to feeling pressured into giving them money. I usually do tho, because by the time I've packed my bags myself I'm starting to feel guilty (which annoys me!) so i drop something in their bucket.

I suppose it must work but personally I'm inclined to be more generous with people collecting for charity who aren't so much in your face.

I ignore them. If they laugh at me I write a letter of complaint to the store & they can usually tell which kids it is from the receipt. I don't want someone else's grotty kids anywhere near my shopping

Yanbu. I hate this and will queue in a longer queue to avoid them.

KnowOneNose · 13/12/2016 18:33

I think it's a bit pushy if they are standing at the end of the checkout. Its easy enough to decline though.

SnatchedPencil · 13/12/2016 18:37

YANBU. I don't get things like this where the supermarket seems to be actively trying to make your shop uncomfortable. Yes it's for "charity" but if ANYTHING is acceptable for "charity" then maybe suggest the whole supermarket staff have to work naked for the day and you'll donate 60p to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

It seems to be Zombie thread revival day. Confused

Cuttingthecheese · 13/12/2016 20:55

Why do people have such an issue with zombie threads? Especially about something so generic. Why have 15 threads on the same subject if you don't have to?

lasttimeround · 13/12/2016 20:59

I like this. I think its good for them. I ask thrm rhar theyre raiding funds for and i think children need to learn yo have these types of conversations. I do give instructions to put this or that item in later.
The points a bit lost if you pay them not to pack. Just say no and don't pay of you doing like it.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2016 21:38

15 threads on the same subject on one day might be a bit much but i think after 3 years just start a new thread. People tend not to RTFT and start addressing the long gone OP.

Plus why would anyone be searching for a thread about this in order to bump it? Confused

mayemerald · 13/12/2016 21:42

I did once. I had been reading went away and posted and then was like 'oops!' And everyone flamed me for bumping a zombie! I name changed Xmas Grin

Namechangebitch · 13/12/2016 21:47

I hate it. It should be illegal.
Go away.
Touch my shopping and I'll break your arm.
I scan it directly into my own bags. Grrrrrrrr

But apart from that I'm easy.
