Chuggers at the front door

I'm not an uncharitable person. And I do support a number of charities each month. But I am getting royally hacked off by charities door stepping me. I've just answered the door to a charity fundraiser for the 4th time this week. I know I sound ungrateful and miserly and these charities do great work. But enough is enough. Flame me if I'm being horrible - but I don't want to be harangued on my own doorstep. (Quite apart from which, as a mother of twin toddlers, it's pretty much NEVER a good time!)

You don't sound ungrateful or miserly. It does my head in too - we support charities of our choice when we feel able to afford it and I don't like being asked constantly for money either.
I understand they have a job to to do, but it's really unpleasant to have to constantly say no.

I think YANBU.

MonkeysInTheFog · 06/12/2013 14:43

Get one of those signs. Since I got one I haven't had a single salesperson, chugger or god-botherer.

notundermyfoof · 06/12/2013 14:44

Yanbu at all, I don't think they should be allowed to knock on doors asking for bank details. I get annoyed about playing dodge the chugger in the high street but at least there you can avoid them, it just feels too invasive having them appear on your doorstep.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 14:44

YY, I have a sign. Works wonders.

VanitasVanitatum · 06/12/2013 14:47

There was a thread about this a couple of days ago, I think pretty much everyone agreed with you so don't feel bad! I do feel sorry for them doing this is freezing weather but I hate that you say no then they try to keep you talking when you can feel the (really expensive) warmth rushing out of your house into the freezing cold! Get a 'no cold callers' sign.

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 14:50

Yanbu. I hate being bothered by cold callers.

And why should I have to put up a sign? It would spoil the look of my lovely period front door.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 14:52

Well don't put up a sign and have chuggers knocking on your period front door then Mardy. Grin

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 14:53

Maybe they should just be banned sparkling. Grin

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 14:54

Are these Grins a bit passive agressive? Grin Wink

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 14:56

I wasn't meaning to be passive aggressive Mardy, I do know what you mean. But I have a UPVC front door so it looks ok IYKWIM. Grin

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 14:58

Surely you know I'm teasing Sparkling.

Maybe I should get an olde worlde period no callers sign.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 14:59

So you don't have a period front door Mardy? Sad I had imagined it and everything.

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 15:03

Oh bugger, this is all going wrong.

I was teasing about the passive aggressive smilies. I do have a lovely front door.

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 15:03

Sorry OP, this has gone off on a bit of a tangent.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 15:07

Don't worry Mardy I will get the thread back on track with a picture of my sign-this is what you need OP. Smile

JulesSilo17 · 06/12/2013 15:10

What are these signs you speak of?

These doormats might work

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 15:10

That sign is sexist Sparkling.

It doesn't outlaw saleswomen.

TheListingAttic · 06/12/2013 15:10

Mardy Something like:
"Avaunt! Away wi' ye hawkers, peddlers, vagabonds and urchins!"

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 15:14

Grin at Listing.

Sparkling, that sign also needs a comma. I wouldn't be putting something so ugly AND ungrammatical on my door.

MardyBra · 06/12/2013 15:26

And as for telephone cold callers.

DS gets most embarrassed when I give them short shrift.
