To think DD is unusually lazy for a 1 year old?

DD is 14 months, and still asleep. She went to bed at half 6, and should be up about half 10, then has a half hour-45 minute nap at lunchtime
She isnt walking yet, likes to be carried everywhere, and usually sits and plays even though she can crawl. She even goes back to comando crawling at times, im sure its because its easier!
AIBU to be slightly worried and considering going to the doctor?

Just a thought --anaemia?
One of my dc was much more placid than others ,turned out to be severely anaemic.Once on iron supplements was a changed child. Good luck

NigellasLeftNostril · 06/12/2013 10:30

my daughter was like that, she loved to have a nap and didn't walk til she was 18 months. Although what gnome said must also be worth checking out.

SaucyJack · 06/12/2013 10:34

Does she nap in the afternoon?

If not, she doesn't sound like she is getting any more sleep than any other one-year-old- just doing it in one big chunk.

HopAndSkipAlong · 06/12/2013 10:37

Oh! Do they usually have 2 naps still at 1? she's refused to have more than one since about 9 months.
I think I will get her checked for anemia though just incase Confused

so he sleeps over 17 hours/day?
I think that is unusual, the big average is 12-14 hrs/day.

it doesn't mean there's something wrong with him, but he is not awake enough to excersice and strengthen his muscles so that is a possible explanation why he prefers to crawl.

a one year old not walking is nothing though, mine would normally take their first steps around 12-13 moths and walk around 15 months, but still preferred to be carried.

if you are worried get him checked by all means, YANBU.
I think I would, good point about iron deficiency.

if that helps I'd kill to have a child who sleeps

CMOTDibbler · 06/12/2013 10:40

At that age my ds slept 12 hours a night and had an hours nap in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Didn't crawl till 12 months, walked at 14 months. He stayed napping 2 hours a day till he was 4, and at 7 1/2 still needs to sleep 12 hours at night. During his waking hours he is very high energy now!

Dairy intolerance made my DGCs sleep and sleep and sleep.

OHforDUCKSchristmascake · 06/12/2013 11:55

Dairy intolerance usually makes babies wake and wake and wake.

Ive never heard of it making children sleep.

Also anemia, whilst usually making you feel very sleepy, often makes it difficult to sleep.

But you know, different people have different symptoms for different things.

Drinking a lot of cows milk can cause iron deficiency because it inhibitis iron absorbtion.

It sounds a very long time for her to go without food. Does she eat loads when she is awake? DD used to sleep like nobody business. 6.30pm to 8.30am and a 2 hour nap. It all stopped just before she was 2 and she has barely slept for 15 months Hmm. I would get her checked over to be sure
