Now, I know this is a bit unreasonable, but I do think Amazon are being a leeeeetle bit ridiculous here, considering the time of year.

DH has bought me a Kindle Fire for Christmas. As a surprse. He's used my (our, I suppose) Amazon account so it's all set up, and diligently deleted all the emails Amazon sent regarding the order. We both use the Amazon account for Christmas stuff, we've turned off the 'because you viewed' suggestions and it has worked like this for years without spoling any surprises.

It's not the end of the world. BUT. Amazon have now sent me about four or five emails welcoming me to Kindle Fire. Adverts, coupons, info. I feel a bit bombarded.

I'm not going to tell DH, and i do KNOW that we've brought this on ourselves by sharing an account and stuff, but really. This many emails? Surely we can't be the only people who've had this problem? Couldn't they curb the invasive marketing just until January?

AIBU?

It's six of one and half a dozen of the other. I can understand having a shared amazon account would be convenient when you have the same address information and perhaps the same payment information. However it does run the risk of spoiling surprises.

There's no harm in emailing them about it though. It would be a good idea if they didn't send out those sort of messages when the 'it's a gift option' is checked as presumably the buyer doesn't want to receive them anyway when they won't be using the product.

Ah, I've set the message pane so I only get a bit of the title.

I've also just realised that the usual emails go to the Amazon folder so I don;'t notice them.

These ones went into the main email folder, they must come from a different address.

I don't get it. The order was from your Amazon account to your email address. How is Amazon supposed to know that you aren't the person ordering? Maybe I'm missing something, but I think it's a weird expectation.

DamnBamboo · 06/12/2013 10:31

I'm just wondering why you share an account? I don't think Amazon are being unreasonable in the slightest, and I don't particularly like Amazon so that's saying something.

I did say I knew I was being UR Grin

I actually didn';t know you could share Prime membership, so that sorts that out for next year.

oh thanks Blush i can be snippy though and a bit too straight to the point sometimes,

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/12/2013 12:14

Op, if yours is the "family" email address, how do you know it is for you?

Ephiny · 06/12/2013 14:32

The number of emails sounds a bit excessive (at any time of year) but I don't think you can be upset at Amazon for spoiling your surprise, they can't know you share the account or that the present is for you.

I've never heard of people sharing accounts like that. I think it would be a bit weird to have DH seeing everything I buy or browse!

Sirzy · 06/12/2013 14:36

If he used your amazon account linked to your email address then you can hardly be surprised when you receive emails relating to the product.

Trills · 06/12/2013 15:48

YANBU to be mildly irritated, but YABU to expect anything else.

On the plus side you have done lots of people a service by making them aware that you can buy Amazon Prime and then nominate other members of your household to also be able to use the fast postage :)

Dh's present turned up in a box with helicopter shop stickers all over it. Thankfully I got to it first.
