Off the back of the shit that is Tracey Beaker?

I've yet to hear positive things said about her books by any parent.

I'm happy to be convinced otherwise (although the kids are non plussed about her books)

Guys this thread was started in 2013

My eldest , loved them as a kid and I've kept them for youngest I hope she reads them too

Spacey306 · 05/02/2020 13:07

I remember one by her think it's called the sleepover club, one girl didn't want her friends to come as she had a disabled sister and was embarrassed/worried what they'd think. Exactly my situation when I was younger I have a severely disabled brother who is very loud and can grab you, I never wanted anyone to come round because of this. Obviously now those feelings have gone and I'm so proud of him, but reading that as a youngster really related to me it was amazing

I know this a zombie thread but I absolutely love Jacqueline Wilson, I always have done. She’s fantastic.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/02/2020 13:11

love Jacqueline Wilson- reading her books growing up made me realise I wasnt the only one with a dysfunctional family set up- dead mother and a manically depressive father.
Reading all sugar, spice and all things nice books would have made me feel like absolute shit

Grembolina · 05/02/2020 13:13

I loved JW when I was young, I would and still do ready pretty much anything I can get my hands on.

I don't ban any books, I don't know why you would, it's just a story.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 05/02/2020 13:27

Emjmc

Girls in Love is not suitable for 8 year olds. If the school is giving them that to read then you need to take it up with them, not blame JW for writing a book meant for teenagers.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 05/02/2020 13:30

@ChaffinchOfDoom Grin

I read a rather racy novel called Kinflicks at around 15 . Loved it , haha. Same with Lace, that became a mini series .

As for JW my DCs are older and she wasn't on the radar but they liked Tracy Beaker , especially my younger DSs whose father left . They got something from Tracy Beaker in my opinion.

P999 · 05/02/2020 14:17

Hi OP. Do you also censor Roald Dahl? George's marvellous medicine is about a sociopathic, murderous 8 year old who poisons his grandma's with anti freeze, amongst other nasties (with added sinister dimension that you sympathise with young George! Ah, chilling...).

RhiWrites · 05/02/2020 16:46

@Emjmc I was making a joke about your resurrection of a zombie thread from 2013.

QuestionableMouse · 05/02/2020 17:15

@P999 this thread was posted in 2013 so I doubt the op is going to reply...

While I notice this is a zombie thread, I just want to add that my DSD connected with Suitcase Kid on a really deep level and used to take the book back and forth with her from ours to her mums. She made her younger sister read it too so she could understand her feelings (I don't know how well this worked). JW helps children understand they are not alone and the things they are going through do eventually get better.

Jw is a lovely lady (she lived near me and does things in local library). Her books are great at encouraging reading. Some of the subjects are hard hitting but great for discussion. As an adult i try and read any new books she writes. She can write...get the readers attention..sign of a good writer. Yabu.
