To think all dogs aren't this naughty???

Looking after my brother's dog. She's a naughty little shit. Sorry but I am so annoyed.

I'm in the kitchen with her in her bed....I made myself some pasta for lunch, grated some cheese on top, turned around to get a fork and when I looked back she'd silently got the whole block of cheese and returned to her basket with it. Angry

Do they ALL act like that? The cheese is now licked and bitten so in the bin...what a waste!

She's very tall so it's not much effort for her to reach the countertop...but really...to do it when I'm in the frigging room!!

Hahaha TooExtra . I feel your pain. Our Grey has a penchant for the Guinea Pig food too and the result is something similar.

I think sighthounds or working breeds are particularly good at stealing things.

We used to have a grey that could open doors so sdad had to turn them all upside down so you lifted them up to open.

And my auntie had one that had a special fetish for shit. I remember as a child going on a seaside visit and the dog running down the beach hoovering up the donkey shit whilst my auntie ran after her screaming 'ellie, ellie leave it you dirty bastard ellie'.

Hadn't thought about that for years. Must have been at least 30 yrs ago.

I have a lab and they are renowned for stealing food but ours would never take anything from the kitchen counter. Not ever. I can leave out a chicken carcass and she will not touch it. She will sit and stare and it and will it to drop on the floor whilst collecting a big puddle of drool at her feet but she would never steal it.

We trained her from the minute we got her not to jump up on the counter and to always wait for food. She won't even eat her dinner from her bowl without being told to.

I just wish her recall was as good.

My dogs eat anything if they think they have half a chance- turned around once to find the older one standing on the dining room table, looking for leftovers.

The other dog has recently been pooing green crayon. She eats anything- but doesn't pick up toys or shoes generally- just things she thinks might be food (candles, crayons... I suspect she's tried to eat concrete or plaster too, we're having building work done- she's also tried wall paper paste). She also eats poo.

They can open the bins and will fetch out empty packets to lick- once somehow they ate chicken from the fridge- I have no idea how because they can't open the fridge but I know it was in there and then gone when I went to use it.

The cat isn't above eating unattended food either, especially if he gets there before the dogs.

There doesn't seem to be any theme in what they eat. My friends horse goes mental (and I mean mental) for dried cranberries Confused
She will pin you (gently!) in a corner, and inhales them with a look of bliss on her face. My horse looked at me like "wtf, that's not a carrot?! when I dared to offer her some"

This thread is hilarious. Frooby I am only laughing at yours because it hasn't happened to me!

My old girl was terrible. She was the most placid docile beast imaginable but she'd casually and gently take a sandwich from your hand if you dropped your guard. Her worst was a whole bag of split peas [boak] but over the years she stole everything and anything.

She also gave DH's dog a thorough education in the merits of theft. He's 14 now but can still be caught wandering around on the dining table if I don't clear it immediately after dinner!

The dog is lying on her back next to me on the sofa with all her tall legs in the air. She's also in heat so I've a great view Hmm Today she stole a slice of raw bacon from a packet which I was holding as I laid some in the pan. She took it almost without me seeing.

I went to the butchers and got her two lovely bones this afternoon but she still snuck into the kitchen earlier and ate the cats dinner.

She's just a dog doing what dogs do :) frustrating but nothing personal!

Grotbagstwin · 07/12/2013 22:55

Yes my dog does things like this all the time, my ds and him are a great tag team, ds left the fridge open and the dog went on to eat a tub of butter, cocktail sausages, ham, cheese and took a pack of yoghurts to his bed, the feast spured him on to realise what wonders you can get from a fridge and can now open the fridge and help himself so childlocks are now on it!

Dwerf · 07/12/2013 23:13

My dog usually doesn't take things from the worktops (although he regards the bin as his own personal toybox) but one day he managed to snaffle half a tub of butter, a packet of sugar and a packet of flour. Not sure how much he ate but I was disappointed to discover he did not shit cake later.

tabulahrasa · 07/12/2013 23:22

Mine doesn't steal food...because that would imply some sort of understanding that food exists that isn't for him.

He knows leave - he's very good at leave, so that's fine, I can tell him to leave cheese while cooking and he will, but he'll then wander past while you're eating your dinner and lick it Hmm

He's never fed from plates, he's always had a negative reaction...he just refuses to acknowledge that it's not on to lick your food, well that or drop a toy in it.

We just send him to bed at mealtimes now, so we've not really trained him as much as ourselves, lol.

sykadelic15 · 08/12/2013 00:03

Oh god. Cheese gives ALL dogs the shits (left-over Indian food - even just the sauce - is also a trauma I will never forget!). If she ate a lot you've probably already had to clean it up!
