to not want to dress my 3YO DD in skinny jeans

DD is very tall and quite stocky which means I have to buy age 5-6 or 6-7 clothes. This puts her into the older girls category as far as clothes manufacturers are concerned and I really struggle to find age appropriate clothes for her. AIBU in not wanting to dress her in skinny jeans and a One Direction top? And thinking that even if she was 5 or 6, I still wouldn't want to dress her like that. The older girls category seems to stretch from 5-11 YO which is a huge age range. Surely there is a massive difference between what is ok for an 11 year old to wear and what is ok for a 5 year old?

It is true DD2 split her skinny jeans doing gymnastics, but DD2's take on catwheels, splits, front and back walkovers and an hour turning somersaults on the trampoline has worn holes in her gym shorts too.

I can't stand skinny jeans, Moment, for any age, and they look particularly silly on me with my fleshier thighs and bony ankles. I get it's a fashion and other people like them - I just get annoyed at the lack of choice for people who don't want them.

I did manage to find DD two pairs of bootleg jeans in Debenhams this morning, on offer, and from a nice soft and slightly stretchy denim. I was pleased. All the other shops seem to think that skinny is the only style for jeans at the moment.

I so agree with that statement, I don't think skinny jeans look good on anyone and that 'tucked in boots with a long jumper' look is so common popular.

Unless you are 18 and a size 8 - skinny jeans look ridiculous.

I feel so sorry for the 'plumper' girls at my son's school, the 6th formers don't wear uniform but the sight of these poor girls, squeezed into 'fashionable' skinny jeans when they are size 18+ is just so sad.

And yes, I am a larger lady myself Grin.

I'm also bemused on skinny jeans not be stretchy - dd's have loads of stretch in them. Perhaps toddler clothes are manufactured from different fabrics to older childrens.
I get hers in baby gap - don't fall down, fit well, are soft & stretchy. Unlike the looser fit ones from next which are difficult to get on despite being loose and baggy, and which weirdly kept falling off her.

No of course YANBU-it's your choice. My DD (and I) like skinny jeans as they tuck nicely into boots and are more substantial than leggings so warmer in the winter (and can't see pants through them!). The one direction t however...no thanks! Do Gap or next not do different fit jeans for children?

where are you shopping?

My dd is 5, and wears that age range clothes, and I dont have any one direction tops, or skinny jeans for her

2 skinny malinks who love skinny jeans in my house. I think the suit children better than adults in most cases.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/12/2013 14:51

I've never found a pair of children's jeans that don't have a good percentage of some sort of elastic in them. Where do you lot all buy these hard to wear, rough denim in toddler sizes?? I must shop in another world!

TheWitTank · 04/12/2013 14:57

My DD is also a skinny Minnie-so bootleg or wider jeans tend to drown her. Skinnies seem to fit just right-more like slim fit than skin tight. Leggings seem to lose all their elastic after a few wears and then they are bagging all over the place on her. I like them because with the dog/horses I am always in boots of some description-be it wellies, riding boots, walking boots, and they just slide easily on without rucking or me having to try to fold my jeans in or tuck them uncomfortably in my socks. I do like my normal fit ones too though!
