To think this money was stolen?

Long story...

Dd1 12 got some money for her birthday (about 80 pounds altogether). She put it into a little purse in a tiny handbag which she has kept in her bedroom.

2 weeks ago we went to the shops and she got herself a couple of little things then when we got home she hung the little bag on the end of her bed.

Last week we had somebody from the council come round as all our new windows had gone completely mouldy in dds room, our room and toilet and bathroom. I had hosp appts that day so mil said she would sit at our house while the council did the work. The man turned up and spent about 3 hrs mil said bleaching the mould, removing the sealant round windows and redoing it.

When we got back dd1 couldn't find her little bag. We have on at least three occasions in the last week pulled everything out and searched the whole house and cannot find it. Dh has emptied his car just in case it was in there (I knew it wouldn't be as had seen it in dds room the day windows were done.
We have questioned ds1 in case he had 'borrowed' it but he promised he hadn't (and we searched his room anyway).

It is not in the house so I can only assume it left when the council workman left although I find it odd that the whole bag, purse and money went, surely he would just have taken the notes and left the purse? It was a tiny bag though, the size of a purse itself so maybe he just grabbed it on his way out??

I don't really know what to do. Mil said he seemed nice but that she just left him to it so didn't see anything.

I'm not sure what to do but I think the only explanation is that the money was stolen?

Have they had any "friends" round ?

It probably was but it will be difficult to prove. I'm sure I've had something stolen from a bag in my office. The problem is that I didn't notice it was missing until I was home, so it could have been pickpocketed on the journey. Similarly, there are other possibilities for who took the bag.

Im not saying the man took it but I will say this.

Last year my lovely friend had the council out to fit a new bathroom. She had some rare/expensive train sets in the loft. They are her dads he is a toy collector and dealer.

Anyway soon after the work was completed it was discovered that one set and part of another had gone missing without a trace. No one else had been in the house apart from her dad who stayed in the house while the work was completed.

No, only people who had been round were miland council workman.

I had a sum of money 'go missing' many years ago after workmen had been in my flat. I caused a massive stink and got it refunded ('without prejudice' of course) Worth saying something I honestly think.

Can anyone else remember a thread a while ago when the OP thought someone had nicked a ring, I think (British Gas man comes to mind here) and she complained and then found it?
