to think all teachers should agree...

Normally I defend teachers wholeheartedly as they have a really difficult job. BUT yesterday 55 children were sent home from school because they were told they were wearing skinny trousers. My dc passed, which was right because the label in the trousers says Straightcut and she has been wearing them for the last 6 weeks. Today wearing the same trousers she has not passed. She has not been sent home but has been given til after Christmas to get new ones. We are puzzled and are waiting for school to get back. Strange how the person you wish to speak to is never available.

BERSERK!

This mad mad obsession with appearance.

SparkleSoiree · 03/12/2013 10:40

I do think schools go overboard at times on uniform restriction. People buy the required clothing from different shops which means styling will be slightly different. Heck some shops can't even agree on sizing never mind styling!

I feel it's a control issue rather than an appearance issue.

55?? Jesus what crap.

Britain is again languishing as mid table non-entities for global school tests.

Perhaps a bit more focus on teaching and less on sartorial issues and we might make some headway.

Justforlaughs · 03/12/2013 10:48

Our local comp does this, and I have ALWAYS defended them to the point where students should adhere to sensible restrictions. Proper shoes, no belts skirts etc, but it seems to have gone mad recently and it's not even down to different teachers anymore. It can be the same teacher on a different day Confused. They really need to get their acts together on this one.

I agree harticus.

This obsession with uniform is all well and good but it does smack a bit of rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

BatmanLovesRobins · 03/12/2013 11:01

Oh, not all that PISA toss harticus. Other countries exclude SEN pupils from their data - we don't. Our children are measured earlier than other countries on the list too, according to Michael Rosen.

Anyway... main point of thread. YANBU - I think until the school specifies retailer / exact pair of trousers etc, there are always going to be borderline cases like yours. Causes such aggro and ill feeling, bonkers.
