DS1 (yr 1) was singing the song his class are dancing to in the Xmas play, googled to check (he confirmed that it was the version). It's a rolf harris song. I appreciate he has not been convicted just charged, and that they are likely to have purchased a production some time ago...but still I would have thought they might have swapped it for something else?

Not going to complain but it made me a little Hmm, what do you think?

I thought it was Jeg the peg!

Agree with Judge. Too trivial to worry about.

Pagwatch · 02/12/2013 20:16

Hahaha Jake the Pake Grin

I don't care. I hate the santitizing after the event. It's just a bloody song. Curling your lip at a song or a film or anything else doesn't help victims.

flyingspaghettimonster · 02/12/2013 20:17

I don't see a problem with it, but then I really can't believe Rolf Harris is guilty.

I still listen to Jonathon King's The Butterfly that Stamped album, because his conviction and sentence for paedophile doesn't change the fact I enjoy that music from my childhood.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 02/12/2013 20:18

I agree with you a bit, OP. I wasn't happy when the school had the kids singing a Michael Jackson song. Seems people have short memories or else they don't care.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 02/12/2013 20:19

Justforlaughs I think I have read the portrait has been returned or lost.

Tweasels · 02/12/2013 20:20

Why were you upset about kids singing Michael Jackson songs?

Pagwatch · 02/12/2013 20:22

Or they may not regard it as relevant?

Please don't accuse people who don't draw a line between abuse and the music/film/art whatever as either or getting or not caring.
Some of us just don't connect the two aspects - the person and the art/music/performance

Pagwatch · 02/12/2013 20:22

Forgetting not 'or getting'

deepfriedsage · 02/12/2013 20:24

What films did Polanski do? Is he the one Kate Winslet signed a petition for?

Jackson was an odd one, I don't think he was convicted, he made large sum payments to various boys if memory serves me right.

mybeardisblack · 02/12/2013 20:26

Lots of responses. Like I said just pondering really. Ashamed that assumed guilt without really thinking it through.

On a separate note I would not listen to music of someone who had been convicted as it would make me feel uncomfortable.

The Queen and BBC both refused ownership of RH painting of her majesty.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/12/2013 20:28

He hasn't been convicted of anything currently.

The amount of "artists" who have been very unsavoury indeed throughout history would leave us with rather a dearth of anything to read/watch/listen to.

And that's just the ones we know of.

Kids singing/being allowed to sing, Two Little Boys/Thriller/My Gang is not condoning anything, they're just songs.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/12/2013 20:29

Not surprised the Queen refused ownership of that portrait. For starters it was shit.

Pagwatch · 02/12/2013 20:31

I would listen to music of people convicted if I liked it.

deepfriedsage · 02/12/2013 20:32

The two worst pictures, the rh portrait of the Queen and the first official one of Kate a year ago.

thebody · 02/12/2013 20:32

I prefer jake the pake!!! Grin but I am daft.

writingquestion · 02/12/2013 20:32

MY DSs love Michael Jackson songs. I'd never even considered not playing them.

Pagwatch · 02/12/2013 20:33

I prefer Jake the Pake too Grin

Justforlaughs · 02/12/2013 20:34

Maybe the Royalties should be redirected to relevant charities for anyone convicted of certain crimes.

WestieMamma · 02/12/2013 20:37

At my daughter's church school nativity play I was somewhat Hmm when the angels skipping out was accompanied by The Exorcist theme tune. :o

thebody · 02/12/2013 20:37

Grin singing the bloody song now!

mybeardisblack · 02/12/2013 20:38

That sounds like a good idea justforlaughs.

Pagwatch · 02/12/2013 20:39

Grin at westiemama
Is that really really true , because I love it.

MrsMook · 02/12/2013 20:40

I remember a discussion about Michael Jackson and Gary Glitter and their musical legacy a good while back. (Think it was Paul Gamboccini which adds another layer or irony) was saying that Jackson would be played because his musical brilliance was able to outshine the taint to his character, whereas Glitter would end up in the pop dustbin as it wasn't that great. It seems to have bourne out that way. I always suspected that with Michael Jackson that if the worst was true, someone would have stuck out to a full trial rather than being paid off. Anyway his death seems to have removed the character blight from his back catalogue.

Phil Spector's groups seem to have had a little more airplay recently compared to when he was first convicted of murder.

Rolf Harris? I shouldn't let him taint a happy memory of two deceased family members one of which was singing Two Little Boys.

If he's convicted, that would be different to being accused as he is at present.
