Ive just got a new car and i got a free ipad mini with it. Would it be unfair to give him just that for his prezzie

No, I would be delighted with an ipad mini. Go for it. It is they thought that counts, not the amount you spent on it. It's a good gift.

ineedanexcuse · 29/11/2013 21:22

It doesnt matter where it came from .Its still a great present. Save your money for treats for you both Wink

AgentZigzag · 29/11/2013 21:25

YANBU!

Is he likely to feel hard done by if he knew it was a freebie?

Get him something a bit extra with the cash you've saved, or something for all the family?

trulymadlyme · 29/11/2013 21:28

no i'm giving my oh the free mug that comes with pg tips. I thought you were going to be doing the same Grin

MirandaGoshawk · 29/11/2013 21:29

Of course YANBU - it's not as if it's some tatty old thing. I thought you were going to say it's a Macdonald's free toy!

AuditAngel · 29/11/2013 21:31

I'm getting one of those (but I know mine wasn't free with a new car) he'll be ecstatic. Just delete the link to this thread.......

LadyVetinari · 29/11/2013 21:45

Would he like a tablet? Is he OK with owning Apple stuff? Does he want something specific that isn't an Ipad Mini?

If the answers to those questions are all okay, then you're in the clear Smile. I, on the other hand, would be very upset to receive one for Christmas, regardless of how it was obtained.

CuntyBunty · 29/11/2013 21:57

Miranda don't knock the free McDonald's toy; they are giving out little mini Furbies. DS2 (5 yo) nearly wet his pants with job tonight. I had to have a kids meal so I could get him and extra Furby, I was that excited by it.

Lady, nosey, but may I ask why you would be upset? Are Apple unethical or something that I don't know about?

LadyVetinari · 29/11/2013 22:17

Cunty - No principled or high-minded reason Grin. I'd just be upset because DH knows that there are lots of things I'd like (most of which are very cheap), and I've never shown any interest in tablets or other Apple stuff because I spend too much of my money on parrots, guitars and books to justify any other interests.

AgentZigzag · 29/11/2013 22:21

Lots of people don't like Apple stuff because they kind of lock you into their products I think Cunty?

We've never been wealthy enough to have the choice Grin

LadyVetinari · 29/11/2013 22:23

Oh, I just re-read my post and realised why you asked - when I asked "is he OK with owning Apple stuff" I meant "is he precious about brands?" I'd be upset if somebody replaced my laptop or MP3 player with one by a different brand, because I have my own preferences based on interface, aesthetics, familiarity etc and tend to stick with the same brands for years for those reasons. (e.g. DH can't talk me into replacing my current mobile phone with a far superior one because I've had the same brand for about 10 years and find it intuitive now, whereas his much better but feels awkward to me.)

CuntyBunty · 29/11/2013 22:24

How about a nice free Furby then? They aren't half bad.

ErrorError · 29/11/2013 22:26

YANBU. I won a pair of free passes to a tourist attraction in a raffle a few years ago. That was my Christmas present to my parents! Only cost me £1 but worth a fair bit more, and I knew they'd appreciate it so much more than me as I was hoping to win the Spa day.

MirandaGoshawk · 30/11/2013 18:23

I'd forgotten the joy that a free McDonalds toy can give if the OP thinks her DH will be similarly delighted, a furby it is then! Grin

FizzyPink · 01/12/2013 00:10

I'm giving my mum the awful snood my mil gave to me last week.

Sexykitten2005 · 01/12/2013 01:13

Lol last year my company gave away free mini boxes of chocolates stamped with our logo. My whole family got a box as a tree present. This years freebies are trolley coins and guess what everyone is getting.... Presents aren't about the money but if someone wants them, if he'd like it them go for it. (Maybe add an iTunes voucher or a case to make it complete if you feel you have to spend something?)

whatever5 · 01/12/2013 17:15

It's a great present if it's something he would have wanted anyway. If you are giving it to him just because you don't particularly want it though,it's a bit mean.

mummyzoe2012 · 02/12/2013 18:43

He wants it and i dont i have a samsung tab 2 that i love

Lol! My brother and mother have true same initials. He used to work for a company that gave him really good Chrismas presents with his initials on - leather Filofax, monsgemed lambswool scarf etc. DB worked off shore and went into his head office en route home around Christmas and always gave his company Christmas present to Adam. All went well until the year they put full names on...
