to move to get my DC into a better primary school?

We rent and have been thinking of moving for a while as house is a bit small. Recently got DCs application letter for primary school which he will start next September. We must apply by mid January (online).

Catchment primary is in special measures.

I would like DC to go to the 'outstanding' primary school my older DC went to (big age gap!) in the 'naicer' area we lived in before we moved into this and well within catchment. The rent is quite a bit higher but housing benefit will bridge the gap (don't currently claim any but will be entitled to). We can move the 1st week in Jan so will have to change address with LEA and it will be sailing a bit close to the wind but we should be able to do it.

So AIBU to move areas for DC to attend a better school and claim housing benefit to do so?

According to some, we should send DC to the shitty school where we can afford to rent without housing benefit rather than claim 'taxpayers' money to live in a more expensive area with a better school.

Is this a school issue or HB issue?

Move, it doesn't matter what some random person says on MN. You can have my tax, I'll speak to them in the morning about it Wink

Sorry, lost some text from the paragraph.

I would like DC to go to the 'outstanding' primary school my older DC went to (big age gap!) in the 'naicer' area we lived in before we moved into this cheaper area. There is a house for rent in the next road to it and it is well within catchment. The rent is quite a bit higher but housing benefit will bridge the gap (don't currently claim any but will be entitled to). By 'some' I mean family members.

Personally, I think if you are entitled to HB then you should be able do without persecution on 'moral grounds'. Many people will take advantage of a situation for personal gain and ultimately someone will end up paying.

But visit the schools if you haven't; you may find Ofsted and the vibe you experience are not entirely aligned. Do what your DS wants (if applicable) or what you think is best.

yanbu. we'll be moving next year for the same reason. and if you're entitled to hb then you're entitled to it.

Sorry I altered my para but am very sleepy and cocked it up... for 'do' read 'claim it'.

For the record, we pay a lot in taxes.
